VRC-9 Radio
My A-1 originally came with a VRC-9 radio that now sits in a museum at Parris Island. Since I want to restore mine to original condition, I'll be needing to find the right radio to remount. Anybody know where I can get one?
Edit: With a little more research, I have learned that there was a family of radios; the VRC-8, -9, and -10 for armor, artillery, and infantry units. Each had a separate frequency range with the VRC-10 (based on the RT-68) including the 6 meter Ham band. Since each of these look identical and my identification was based on the last owners recognition of an online photo, I do not know which one was originally in it. Cosmetically, any of the above radios would work but the VRC-10 would be much more useful.

Re: VRC-9 Radio
I just bid on one on E-bay and will likely need a mic/handset and a manual is always needed. As far as other parts, I'll have to wait to test it's actual condition first.

Re: VRC-9 Radio
What year is your 151?, that radio set would be used in only the very early M151's. The M151A1 and A2's would be using the VRC-12 family of radios, if you need the original left and right antenna mounts that hold the AB-15 antenna base for the early GRC sets let me know. Scott out

Re: VRC-9 Radio
The original VRC radio that was in my MUTT is on display in the museum at Parris Island. It was donated by the previous owner while he was serving there. I'm looking for a VRC-10 (RT-68 with power supply and vehicle mount) to replace it since it's the model that includes the 6m band.
Here is my current antenna mount. I haven't seen it's original configuration yet but the team mate I bought the vehicle from will be home on leave in 2 weeks and has promised me a copy of a pic that shows what it looked like when he got it.

Re: VRC-9 Radio
The early radios took up more room than the VRC-12 stuff from the 60's Here's a pic of the VRC-10 type setup mounted on a M-151...

There are two radio systems mounted in that pic. I'm only interested in one.

Re: VRC-9 Radio
any way of getting a measurement of the hole pattern for the mount and the location on the rear fender, the pic is showing it located way to far to rear.
Re: VRC-9 Radio
no, thats a very old picture of a straight 151 from the early 60's. I've never actually seen any of those radios mounted in a mutt since they were obsolete by 1964....

Re: VRC-9 Radio
the B&W, it has the slotted magnesium wheel that was used on the M151. There were three different types of wheel used on our jeeps. the earliest had pairs of round holes spaced around the rim, next were mag wheel with 5 slots, then back to steel wheels with continuous round holes spaced around the rim.

Re: VRC-9 Radio
Nice catch Rick! Stupid me, I looked at the radios in the pic, and then looked again to verify there were 2 sets of radios in the pic. I never once looked at that rim. I know where you can get a set of those Rick, and it's near to your 20 also. You should have made a mag wheel parts run while he was out of town for a month.
Maybe I've never seen the first version of the M151 rims. Hey Ralph, how bout a picture of one?
