Vietnam era Bustle basket photos needed

Unread post by 42GPW » January 23rd, 2010, 8:38 pm

Anyone have some photos of bustle baskets like the WWII jeeps were modified? I'd like to put something on just for part time use and be able to take it off with some sort of clamping system. I made one for my 42, and it just sat on it. It had a green short racthet strap from the middle bottom to the trailer lunette to keep it pulled down. I didnt haul a trailer with it because of the difficulty in backing it up with it attached. That and a short trailer tounge. Why i ask for photos is to keep it more correct vs. WWII era.

Don't recall ever seeing that done on a mutt... shape of the rear bulkhead was not really conducive to mounting such an object. What I did see quite often was expanded metal baskets on the front fenders, and wooden boxes that covered the whole hood, resting on the fenders.

but you know our military, someone, somewhere probably did it at sometime...lol

I like the idea, i think they would look nice on 825's and A1C's because the tail is empty, plus you get blockage of someone falling out the back who is sitting on the fender seats.

I seen one years ago but where I don't remember. He did have the plans and pics of it which I saved but computor crashed since then. You might google it "Bustle basket on M151's" to see what you come up with. If I remember right the the support brackets was mounted on the tow pintle bolts.
