M151 Wheel question

Unread post by pharbor1941 » March 27th, 2010, 6:04 pm

I'm in the process of restoring my first M151A2 that I got last August. I'm now ready to have some new tires mounted on a new set of wheels that I recently bought. Do the wheel on the M151 series use "flaps" or "liners' around the rim to protect the tube? The wheels I have do not have liners. Just wanted to make sure before I go to the tire dealer on monday. Thanks

I have changed a lot of them and have not found a liner yet...the rivets are ground smooth so I don't think you need liners...htn

A couple of years ago I bought tires and flaps. Ended up not using the flaps. They were installed on NOS wheels and I have had no problems or air loss.

I never recall anyone on any site mentioning the use of flaps until Ralph just did.

This may be of help or not but on my A2 although it was garage kept- very clean, the rivets on the inside of the rim rusted inside the rim and one day sitting at a red light the light turned green let out the clutch and poof that rust sliced the a tube instant flat- I had my tire guy sandblasted, ospho'd and then wrapped the inside with a rubber strip. that worked great for a while then I got a deal on some nos
rims from late 70's that had a thick coating on those inside rivets now now prob. I got 4 rims for $20 ea. delivery from tx I believe
like 35 40

Ok. Thanks for the info. The rims I bought were new old stock and on a couple I did find some small spots of corrosion on the inside that will need to be addressed. I'll sand those spots down smooth and use some POR-15 on them in those areas.
