road speed and engine rpm's

Unread post by MUTT_KAHUNA ED » April 1st, 2010, 12:47 pm

This is for anyone wondering how hard our M151 engines are working.....this is based on stock mil spec engine (65 hp @4000 rpm's),gear ratio and 700-16 tires....55 mph=2994 rpm's...60 mph=3266 rpm's....65 mph=3538 rpm's...70 mph=3810 rpm's...If the military (or aftermarket) had a 5 speed trans for the 151 the 60 mph rpm for example would be reduced from 3266 rpm's to 2613......just by ear each of my A2's I've owned had a different "sweet spot".....I had one that sounded like it would fly apart if taken over 50 mph for any length of time to another that 65 mph sounded/felt fine...of course with an open cockpit, noisy diff's mounted right on the body and mil tread tires all gave various noise and vibrations...quite an orchestra of harmonics and noises to feel and listen to....still music to my ears!

I agree with the sweet sound. But I still use those little yellow ear plugs if going more than a few miles. I already have tinnitis from something...loud music, rifle range, Harley FXDXT...whatever. And I can some hear engine sounds with the ear plugs in that I could not hear without them. That has helped me to catch a few things that needed my attention.

I have been but I still maintained my relationship with the National Guard. I just gave up the contracting job so I can begin my campaign.
