Underbody Rust Repair

Unread post by bigkev1434 » July 10th, 2010, 11:07 pm

Hi ,
I have also come to the point where I have to deal with the underbody rust issue, My question is to all out there with more experiance than me is , My vehicle has a bad case of rust in the area of the rear suspension mounting points on both sides . The left being the worst as the body has dropped 30mm on that side causing the drive shaft to rub on the body , Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you tackle it . Just looking for ideas and comment, cheers Kevin

If it is rotted to the point that the suspension has pulled away you may have a real problem. I would really need to see some pictures but it sounds like you are going to have to have someone custom make the entire rear suspension area. This is the point where you have to make a decision on whether the vehicle is worth what you are going to have to put into it.

These historic vehicles are rare enough already and history is always worth it. The question is, can you afford it?

No matter how you do it it is going to be quite expensive to repair that area.

That's what it is. I sort of like the tires, they look like vintage 40's bias tires!

I was intruged by the glove compartment as well , having never seen one any in of the pics ive looked at , It looks very genuine like it was factory made but as it was a taxi in old Seigon for 30 years or so it could be a very professional mod , if it is a mod then they went to a lot of trouble to do it right even down to the military push button knob , Anyway im happy with it as it comes in handy . The tyres are a mix of brands mostly chinese made all nylon highway type and WILL be changed out when it gets closer to completion . It was in a very bad way when I got it most of the wiring was cut and modifed to accommidate a russian generator , ignition system was chinese and the fuel pump had to be replaced as it was off a japanese car So to date ive spent $5000 and you cant even see where it went . :) cheers to all Kev
