Replacing rear U joint and parts
I have nos cross and caps with rollers. Anything else needed in parts to replace it? How tough is it to replace? What should I know to replace it?

Axle, or drive shaft? They are different.

Re: Replacing rear U joint and parts
Shouldn't be any problem, it's an easier job than doing an axle shaft u joint.

Re: Replacing rear U joint and parts
If the old joint is still in place, they are pretty easy. If it is completely missing, you may need to track down 2 u-bolts, and 2 nuts, and lockwashers. Sorry,I dont remember the correct size on the nuts and bolts. New snap rings usually come with the new joint. To remove the old joint, first remove the snap rings. They are on the inside of the yoke, between the joint and yoke, around the bearing cap. Get a socket larger than the diameter of the u-joint, and one smaller than the u-joint. Place them on either side of the joint and clamp it in a vise. Tighten the vise, and press the joint into the large socket. If its stubborn, smack the vise jaw with a hammer, and re-tighten. Repeat as necessary. Reverse to reassemble. Make sure the yoke rings are clean and apply some grease inside to help the new joint press in. Replace the snap rings and you're done.

Re: Replacing rear U joint and parts
The driveshafts do not use U-bolts, They use 5/16 through bolts. be careful when pressing the joints into the shaft because the ears that the joint goes into are very thin and they will bend as you put the joint in. You will have to tap the ears back out as you press the joint in.

What bug crawled up your ass!? I tried to help and you get a case of the ass. Hopefully you find the answers you need but it will not be from me. Good luck when you fold the ears over on the shaft.

I like to put anti-seize on the cups before pressing them in. They slide in easier, and slide out easier if you ever have to replace them.

Re: Replacing rear U joint and parts
I stand corrected. Rick is correct. U-bolts are for axle shafts. He is also right about the yoke rings being thin, so care is in order. Also, nos didn't register. My bad! I thought it said NO cross, or bearings. Old age, and lack of sleep catching up. I guess. Sorry!
