But what about during the above scenario's, will your radial light truck tires prevent a crash? Not likey.
I still like those odds better than driving the streets of Baghdad.

I've had mine up to 65 many times but for the most part i'm never in a rush while driving my mutt, i don't even have seat belts, the jeep is all slow and show for me. On the flip side to that and this is for the Rickster, I don't think it's going to matter much with those scenarios weather you're doing 50 or 70, if you lock up a wheel at 50 you're just as dead if you're going 70. Someone once asked me why I drive so fast on my motorcycle, they always say "what if you hit a rock at 100mph?" The way I look at is that i'm no more dead at 100 then i am at 70 and no one rides their sport bikes at 70..

rickf wrote:OK speed demons, Think about this. You have a single stage braking system, If anything breaks you have NO service brakes. You have an emergency that has two settings locked up and off. Needless to say off does you no good and rear wheels locked at 65.............. Need I say more about that? Next is the fact that these vehicles are know to spit out axle u-joints on a regular basis, almost always the outer and no matter how much it is greased. That alone will take out your brake line but could also jam up in the suspension and lock up that wheel, refer to scenario above. One more thing to think of, IF that wheel jams, due to the way a differential works the end result will be the drive shaft spinning at double normal speed. Do you think it is that well balanced? I guarantee it is not and will most likely fly apart. YEE-HAAAAA, that would be a hell of a ride!

I will keep mine below 55, I will stay off the interstate. There are always secondary roads.

Rick said it best. These things are just not made to do that, never mind the speedo.

The "MAX SPEED 55MPH" stenciled on the dash is no joke. I'd hate to hear about the death of a member here.

I am amazed-. My A2 howls so bad at 50 mph that I can't imagine taking it above that. And my hearing is not good.

OK guys. Since we're all trying to avoid accidents, consider the following facts. Statistics show that most accidents occur within a few miles of home, and that most accidents occur at speeds less than 40 miles an hour. Therefore, the best way to avoid an accident is to drive fast and never go home :!:

If I have to take the highway, I like 55 just fine and so does my mutt.

OK. i went out and got up to 60 with the windshield up. Then i stopped and put the windshield down. 65, noisy and very glad i had my Oakleys on. I caught a bug on my right eye. WHEW! The noise with the windshield up was amazing. So it seems that 55 with the windshield up is my desired limit. I havea back road i can drive to work just need to leave a little earlier.

I took my M151 out on the interstate once. I pegged it out but didn't like the feeling I got trying to keep up with the other vehicles. I slowed down, got on the US highway at the next exit, that parallels the interstate and drove the remainder of my trip at 45 mph. I felt more confortable and have avoided the interstate ever sense. I'll leave the interstate speeds for the those that are more brave than I. after all I'm in no hurry to die or destroy my M151.

I had radial tires on for a while but went back to the NOS military tread. Admittadly the radials were quiter.
