Mic hook location?
Where were the mic hooks located on an A-2 with the 524? htn
slowest mutt east of the missippi..
Re: Mic hook location?
usually on the side of the fenderwell, below the radio. There really wasn't any "official" spot though, it was pretty much where the installer thought it most convenient.

Re: Mic hook location?
did they bolt to the front leg brace bolt...that would be a good place?

Re: Mic hook location?
never saw it there, it would stick out and possibly stab you in the leg on rough terrain. It was usually kinda tucked under the sponson bracket where the mic would be protected a little, like the aux speakers.

Re: Mic hook location?
I have seen a lot of 524's with the aux speaker...but why? was it used as a back up to the unit speaker...the ones I have noticed are like you say bolted under the sponson plate ...so why have it in the first place..

Re: Mic hook location?
the mounts can be used with different radios so the speakers were there for use with them. the 524 having an internal speaker didn't need one, but if issued a 246 then you would need it. also the R-442 aux receiver needed a separate speaker. I have three speakers on mine, one for the RT-246, one for the R-442, which are in the back, and one on the dash with the remote control head so it can be heard better up front. If you are only mounting a 524, I wouldn't bother mounting a speaker.

Re: Mic hook location?
Just noticed from my own pictures, it looks like it had a M442 radio installed along with the VRC-53. Though, can't recall seeing the side mount antenna holes on the side.

Re: Mic hook location?
My 64 has the AB15 antenna mounted on the left rear fender. There is a different mount for it there. I will see if I have any pictures.Austringer wrote:Just noticed from my own pictures, it looks like it had a M442 radio installed along with the VRC-53. Re: Mic hook location?
the radio mount set-ups were usually generic, allowing issue of whatever radios were appropriate for the mission of the day. whether the VRC-53, or RT-524 with a 442 or some other combo the same mount was used. your jeep may have used the ab-558/gr antenna for the 442 which would have been mounted on a sugar scoop like the as-1729...Austringer wrote:Just noticed from my own pictures, it looks like it had a M442 radio installed along with the VRC-53.
