Ahhhh...the SWEET sound of success. I rebuilt my Zenith yesterday. Went out to the shop this morning and put it on and then tried to start my Mutt. The fuel pump ticked for a momment, I pressed on the starter an BANG! It was running...while it was warming up, I eased the choke/throttle in..Hmmmm..still running fairly smooth...

It warmed up enough for the temp guage to begin to move and I pushed the choke all the way in. Gave the idle mixture another, 1/8" turn out. Set the idle down just a tad...and took it for a test drive.

No-more flat spot off idle to full power. Instant response. Warmed up, just "touch" the starter and it is running....smooth...as glass..well, for a herky four banger that is. :)

I am a truly a happy camper.

Setting the float level seems touchy on these..but a pretty simple carb really. A good, properly fitting, NOS kit helped IMMENSELY.

I do not like to leave re-built carbs "in the white"... as the pot metal begins to corrode quickly. So, after I bead blast them, I give them a couple coats of Gun Kote(tm) gold...and then a 350 degree bake for an hour and Voilà! I paint the inside of the carbs also as the crappy gas makes them corrode inside as well if left un-protected. The "build thickness" of the Gun Kote is not a problem unless you lose your mind with the application of it.

:) I am having a good day. :)
