First Annual Air & Auto Classic-Va. Beach

Unread post by csmith » October 24th, 2010, 10:21 pm

Sat I took my driver out to the First Annual Air & Auto Classic show in Va. Beach, sponsered by the local Porsche Club, open to all classic and vintage vehicles and held at the VB Airport & Military Aviation Museum (about a 30 mile drive each way and she ran great!) http://www.militaryaviationmuseum.org/ . I entered my mutt into the show, was the only MV there, and of course did not place (rightly so), but a lot of folks had a look and gave me some great comments, especially the young kidds and a couple of Vietnam Vets. The museum is a private facility and must be one of the largest collections of WWI and II planes in this country and everything is restored and flight worthy :!: :!: I know we have a lot of aviators here so I am posting some photos I think you will enjoy. (there were some great cars there but I will stick to the military stuff :) All cars in the show got their photo taken with the P51 :!:

Cool, thanks for the pics. I love vintage aviation, I'm not an aviator, but I absolutely love anything to do with military (or other) aviation.

A flying Bearcat? Wow. What a collection of aircraft.

I'm entering my first ever show with the M151 next weekend. I'm not in it to even place, but to have fun. It will be a wonderful excuse to deck out the truck in a ton of Vietnam gear and stare at it all day!!

Thanks again,

Jeff

Hey Clell,
Guess who'd a one if we were the judges? Looks like a nice turnout and very similar to the local Air Museum here in NE Ohio. Did you "pull a dibble" on that jeep before you entered it? The offerings of vehicles from this site has sure gone up in the past few years. If my son ever sees you driving around in that jeep, I can bet he'll flag you down to say hello. He's not in the military, but you can sure spot that jeep of yours from a distance.

Matt, they were there when I bought it. Lets ask Randy :) , Randy where did you get them from :?: :?: I like them too, considering whether or not to put the yellow ones on the front fenders.

I became a firm believer in reflectors when my wife almost ran into me. It was about dusk, and she said she just couldn't see me. Remember that these vehicles were painted with low visibilility in mind. I put some aftermarket reflectors on the front. It is one thing for your vehicle to be absolutely correct, it is another thing to have your pride and joy (and possibly you) smashed up. Here are the reflectors I added. BTW, look at the physique on that guy.

Rainman, tell your son to look me up, would be great to meet him! No, did not bring the Pledge :) I felt kinda of funny at first, I pull up into my slot, everyone around me is polishing and buffing their cars, I put out some props, stand up my display board in the front, unfold my chair, put on some sun block, sit down, look around and say "What!!!" :? At least I vaccumed out the dog hair and beach sand!

Jay, the bus belongs to the property owner and I think he uses it as a promotional transport. It like everything, every plane, every thing in the place is perfect, (Mr. D restoration quality) :!:

If anyone from the G8 is ever in Virginia Beach look me up and we will run out there. It was my first time visiting the place and I intend to get back often.

Yes, you are right, I saw the skyraider and thought Bearcat. They do have a Bearcat at the Palm Springs museum, though.

I'm not used to seeing Skyraiders in Navy Blue. That's embarrasing, too. The A-1 is one of my favorite aircraft.
