Top bow straps...how..
do these install? I just got them today from Beachwood Canvass. I cannot fathomm how they install or how they hold/secure the top bows when they are folded up in the down position.

Re: Top bow straps...how..
look for a small hole in the bows---the straps are riveted to the bows--when the bows are stowed, the strap goes around the bows and through the footman loop and then through it's own buckle.

Nope...no holes, no rivets. I have seen that type and it is what my top bows came with, originaly. I was out trying to see how THESE attached and nothing comes to mind.

Re: Top bow straps...how..
my top bows had the remains of the straps (metal tip from the end of the strap) still riveted to it. I drilled out the old rivets and used that tip as a pattern for it's replacement. Once the holes were drilled, it was easy to attach the new strap(s) with a rivet gun. I don't remember my bows having that footman loop 199th posted about on them.

If your bows do not have the rivets nor holes then I'm not sure what to tell you. Thought all of the G838 bows would have had them. Maybe your's (or mine) are early/late style bows?

Re: Top bow straps...how..
The type of strap I was sent clearly was not designed to be riveted to the top bows. I hesitate to say that beachwood would have sent me straps that are not a "fit" for my application... Any others?

wc matt--sorry--my mistake in not being better at describing--the footman loop i mentioned is the one at the top of the rear wheel well that is also used for the bottom side curtain straps when those are in use--when the bows are stowed i run my top strap through the loop to secure the bows down to the body to reduce rattling, though as hard of hearing as i am i sometimes wonder why i bother.

Oh that?! Yes my trucks both had those loops . I was thinking that the loops you were talking about were actually attached to the top bows themselves. That's why i didn't "get it".

Hmmmm... Well where and how, on the top bows, are you supposed to rivet them on and why do both ends of the strap..."look" like they "lace" into a buckel? Any straps, or any remnants of straps, on my top boys are long gone.WC Matt wrote:OMGM

Re: Top bow straps...how..
htn--thanks for the pic--i still can't figure out how to post pics, but i would like to ask a question slightly off thread topic that your pic illustrates. in your pic the folding rod that goes over the door opening and connects to the windshield frame is flat steel, and the one i have is round steel. do i have the wrong one for a 66 A1, or were there two styles?

The images HTN posted are what mine looked like. maybe he would be willing to take some measurements for you so that you can drill in the proper location. If I were closer (& still had my mutt for reference) I'd come over and help you out. But, I'm currently muttless and Ohio is quite a haul to from VA.

The folding rod(s) on both my '71 A2 and '67 A1 were flat steel stock not round.

With the bows folded down just drill your holes above and inside bow of the hold down footman loop under rear fender
