Looks good Jeff! Is the pedestal something you made up? Lets see some close ups of that.

The pedastal is a "field expident" one (home made). It is actually made completely out of military scrap - most parts are from a junk aircraft maintenance stand or some such thing.
Interestingly, I was talking with a Vietnam vet who was checking the truck out once, and he commented that that was just how they made them for the MUTTs in country during the war, and he made particular note that the "real ones" are set too far forward, so if you had to spin around to fire the weapon to the rear, you ended up standing on the dash, or worse.
I have several period pics to support the location difference. My brother's A2 has a correct mount, I actually do like mine more as a driver/passenger. His just feels more obtrusive, in the way.
I like stuff as it would be in front line use, a little "rough around the edges", so to speak, so it suits me fine.
I'll get some pics tomorrow. I'll just start a new thread in the weapon section tomorrow, I'll cut and paste the above description and add the details.

one comment on your install, make sure you have the rubber gasket in place between the 6707 base and the sugar scoop. without it over time the antenna base will develop cracks... i couldn't tell from your pics if it was there but it didn't look like it was...

Thanks for the tip Moose - do you know, is there a particular type of material that should be used for that gasket - rubber, plastic, ?? and is there a resource to get one ??moose53 wrote:one comment on your install, make sure you have the rubber gasket in place between the 6707 base and the sugar scoop. without it over time the antenna base will develop cracks... i couldn't tell from your pics if it was there but it didn't look like it was...

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
The rubber insulator will not stop the antenna base from cracking, there is a metal ring that re-inforces the MX-6707 base to be used I dont have the part # but they show up on epay Iam sure theres a pic of them someone has posted evan when useing them over tightening will crack the base.
Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
most of the antenna bases already have the metal reinforcing ring miljeep mentioned attached, the rubber gasket seems like about the same thickness as a truck inner tube. If you can't find one you could cut one from an old tube. Tbanks on this site has a lot of comm parts and might be able to come up with the gasket and ring if you need that too. Otherwise, I've seen them from time to time on ebay .Elvis Presley wrote:Thanks for the tip Moose - do you know, is there a particular type of material that should be used for that gasket - rubber, plastic, ?? and is there a resource to get one ??moose53 wrote:one comment on your install, make sure you have the rubber gasket in place between the 6707 base and the sugar scoop. without it over time the antenna base will develop cracks... i couldn't tell from your pics if it was there but it didn't look like it was...

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
Just getting started - boy the virgin installation must have been a breeze - my jeep has already had mounts on both side with all the holes filled with bolts. It doesn't line up to well either - may have to drill new hole if I can get the old ones to line up all that well. It also doesn't fit that straight with with extra metal that holds the spare tire bracket in the way... A few more beers may make it better...

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
Hold ON There, dont start drilling any more holes if Iam reading this right your talking about the passenger side wheel sponsen were there is a curved piece at the rear there shouldnt be any holes for a MT-1029 sponson plate unless who ever mounted it couldnt read the instructions and screwed it up. You mite have had a different mount there was the other side drilled at the same location, just seems weird that they would of done that check the hole patterns first. Scott O&O

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
The hole pattern is ALMOST exactly the same - kinda. It was most likely was another mount with the same two rows of three holes on each side but just slightly different. I ended up using some washers under each bolt to kinda offset the mount and it lines up exactly with the holes. I'll post some pics. The washers and the offset look kinda ghetto, but I didn't want to drill any more holes !!!!

Well, it's on there !! Doesn't look as cool as the fresh install, but when stuff is 40+ years old, you can't be too picky!!

Re: Beginning installation of a complete NOS ant. corner mount.
Okay the next part... Has anyone been here before ?????? Well, the answer is YES in the big way !! Both sides had radio sponson plates at one time or another, as the holes are all over the place !! Oh and, there's those three plugs in the floor - man, that makes routing the power cord so much easier... OKAY, so decision is made to re-use the holes on the right side location.
Next issue is: I didn't have a hardware set for the sponson plate.. What type of bolts are used to hold it down??
