New electric fuel pump kits for M151A1 ?

Unread post by ohiomgman » November 10th, 2010, 12:55 pm

I have decided to replace my old and nasty looking electric fuel pump. Who even has these anymore? I also need a few parts to be able to install and retain the fuel filter on the pump. Anyone?

Hey OMGM,
Hate to be the one that always jumps in on your posts, but I have a brite + shiny NOS pump available too, besides the T/O's I posted earlier. Depending on your schedule, your welcome to come over and hit the events with me. Unless you cleaned up and re-installed that old pump you may not be running your 151 yet. If you pick it up tonight, you'll be driving it by morning. Let me know, I'll be around all day and evening as far as I know. We can always use the value of the pump to establish a trade deficit towards an M4 mount, but cash works too.

I picked up on a slightly used fuel pickup assy complete from rainman last night. Put a new filter that I had on it and installed it, put five gallons of fresh gasoline in it and started the engine. After letting it warm up I drove it up and down the drive a couple of times then let it sit and idle for about an hour.

I noticed the one I got from rainman is much quieter than the one I had...could it be the muffling effect of the new filter...and having a filter mounted...at all? It was really loud...the THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! beat of the "old" fuel pump... Now, it is much quieter. Whaddaya think?

I don't know, mine is pretty noisy. I would say to ask Rainman since he was in it but he can't hear anything anyway!

The "new one" well...you can hear it.."ticking" like a bomb...under your...uhhh...seat cushion but it does not sound like it is trying to dig it's way out...like the other one did.

Yeah..it was prob time for a change out anyway. Glad I did. Peace of mind. I am going to dis-assemble the old fuel pick up unit...clean it up..put a new fuel pump on it and have it sitting inside a plastic bag in a box, on the shelf, ready to go...for the next project. Ya just can't have too many spare parts for these sitting around. Even if it is just to get your neighbor and his, going again.... :)

Hey OMGM,
Glad I could help out. There was obviously no further hope for you old fuel pump even with Cstaups parts, so it's good you picked up the NOS pump too. Rick's pump has a definite rattle to it. Even a deaf guy can hear that. :D
