Parts for sale - SOLD

Unread post by Addisonjeep » December 29th, 2010, 8:42 pm

I have 2 M151 distributors that were converted to 12v by RAPCO - $145.00 each
I have one M151 starter that was also converted to 12v by RAPCO - $145.00
Neither of these have been used. I decided to go 24v and have no use for these.

All plus shipping from 37379

I have heard of those but never saw them. You don't buy some chance have a picture or part number for the coil do you?

Thanks for the pictures, I think the price is right for the parts. I am kind of surprised that they have not sold yet.

why is that? I don't think it would be cost effective to convert them back to 24 volt....

I have seen quite a few requests over the years for 12 volt conversions.

It's just a matter of time before someone that needs one finds this post. I'm in no hurry.

I'm new around here, but I'll ask anyway...would you be interested in a trade? If I go to 12 volt stuff I will have the 24 volt stuff available. I can include the 24 volt generator as I would be going to a GM alternator.

Thanks,
Scott

If your parts work then yes I am willing to trade. My parts are like new so I will need to now the condition of you parts. Why are you switching to 12 v?

I bought a 62 model CJ-5 that has been set up with a M151 engine and transmission. The distributor, starter and generator are 24 volt and the rest of the jeep is 12 volt. It seems more practical to just go to 12 volt than to let it remain a split system.

The parts are in service now and all working. I can get you some pictures to show you what they look like. The distributor looks almost new. I haven't eyeballed the starter as it is in a spot I haven't taken enough panels off of to get to. The generator looks average to me. I honestly haven't been into the jeep stuff enough to know fair trade values of parts but I figured the Generator would be able to make up the difference.

I'm new here but I have been a regular on several firearms related forums for years and can be vouched for on Gunsnet, Thehighroad, Frugals, MauserCentral and others if you want to look. I'm "deputyvaughn" on all those forums and Ebay also.

Let me know how you would like to proceed. I'm easy to deal with. I figure it's easy enough if I pay my shipping and you do the same.

Scott

BTW I'm in North Alabama. Where are you?

I am not trying to throw a wrench into your plans but why wouldn't you go back to the stock setup? You would then at least have low range and a real transfer case. I am curious to know how the driveshafts are set up because of the slip yoke in the transmission. There is not enough travel in that yoke to handle a live axle since it is set up for a solid mounted differential.

I had the same questions about how you were able to manage the M151 setup in a CJ. I will pay my shipping if we decide to do this. I would like some pics and I want to know if it is a 60 amp generator (mine is). If your pics include a couple of the driveshaft configuration you can answer several questions at once. One more thing, I had to take the Bendix drive off my starter so you would need to do the same and keep yours.

Addisonjeep,
I'll get some pics and try to post them tomorrow. I'll check the generator also. I can also take off the Bendix before shipping. No problem.

Rickf, I would love to go back to a factory setup but I don't have the money to get another engine and transmission and driveshafts and whatever else I may not have accounted for yet. I bought this on a racehorse deal and it's my first experience with a jeep of any kind. I was a mechanic for years before law enforcement so I can do most of my own tinkering. I didn't know exactly what I had gotten myself into when this started. I just wanted a 4X4 jeep for hunting.
As for the setup, it was like this when I bought it. The drive shafts were made by welding the yokes from the m151 onto the inside end of the CJ shafts (hybrid shafts). The CJ part of the shafts still have a spring loaded slip joint in the middle to allow for movement. The transfer case is just "in" and "out", but the trans has the granny gear first so I have a low range. It'll work for me. The front differential has solid hubs but I will probably trade them out for some manual lockers later. Other changes will just come with time and available money. For now I figure I have 8 months till deer season opens again.....I can work on it and see where it takes me til then. I'm reading and learning more everyday.

Just keep in mind that if you pull those transmission yokes out more than about 1/2-3/4 inch you will dump all of your gear oil in a big hurry.

Managed a couple pics with my phone while locking up the shop last night. I'll have to get down low to see if I can get the amps off the plate on the generator. I will get some more after work tonight.
