Question on powering VRC/12 in M38 Jeep
I am in the process of installing the VRC/12 radio commo system on my US M-38 Jeep. As you may or may not know, one 12 volt battery is under the hood beside the engine and the other battery is mounted inside a compartment in the passenger side cowling. There is a radio power point installed which brings juice from both batteries together which is located on the passenger side, between the seat frame and the inside of the tub. I have attached some images of it. It is a female receptacle with three pins. I assume one is ground, one is positive (24 volts) and the other is a guide to prevent improper plug-ins. What do I use/ which power cord will bring power from IT...to my MT 1029 shock mount?
Anyone?

Got me, I never saw that plug. Have you tried the M38 forum on the G503?

Hey Greg,
Steve Haney has a 12v to 24v converter that mounts inside of a speaker housing. It's wired for a cigarette lighter adapter, but that's an easy "cut and strip" to make a connection. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... MEWAX%3AIT He says the it is for a PRC-25 or PRC-77, both of which are low transmit power compared to the RT-524, but if "receive only" is what your after I'm sure it could handle it. Now if he has any more of them...

Re: Question on powering VRC/12 in M38 Jeep
I have what you need. I took some pictures of it. see below. These were obviously on early Mseries vehicles like the M38 M38A1 and M37 the cables I have are 12' long but thats all I had. They are new but have been tossed around a bit so are not pristine. The end of the conector not show, is the standard 4 prong that goes into the bottom of the MT-1029. Obviously theses are not common anymore since they fit 50's era vehicles. Had to root through a few boxes of cables to find them.

Re: Question on powering VRC/12 in M38 Jeep
Are you sure that wasn't a Canadian Ford built M38? Does it have a Lamp installed above the Rear Diff, was the Diff Cover painted white at some point, or is there an unexplained switch present or a vacant hole from one on the dash?
What you have there is a 3 Pin "Bendix" Connector, which is referred to as an IKEE up here (Install Kit for Electric Equipment). It was part of a Canadian VRC-12 Radio install kit. "A" Pin is Hot, "B" is the Ground, "C" is blank. The US may have used it as well, not totally sure, but its common place up here. That being said, the Sockets and Cables are getting somewhat rare to find here in Canada, as they were usually removed prior to a vehicle going surplus.
The nice thing about the IKEE, is that you are able to "unplug" the Radios or anything else using the circuit in a quick and easy manner without opening the Battery Box or trying to unbolt the Cable from under the MT-1029.
To utilize this, you require a Cable that connects to this Socket (Obviously) and it goes directly to the MT-1029 Tray in the same manner as the US Version.
Picture of the Socket:
Picture of it installed in a Canadian M151A2, with Cable going from Socket to MT-1029:
Your in luck. I happen to have a spare Cable sitting in my Radio parts pile.
PM me and we can work something out.
Scotty

Seems Dan answered the question on their use in the US. I didn't think we were that enterprising up here, but you never know
$30 shipped is a pretty decent deal really.

Re: Question on powering VRC/12 in M38 Jeep
The M37 has a place in the front panel of the bed that the female plug bolts to. Most people don't know what the hole is for. Like you say these are not very common anymore. I will try and post a picture tomarrow

Re: Question on powering VRC/12 in M38 Jeep
My M38 is a Willys made in Toledo Ohio. No, no white painted dif cover or switch for diff light. My M38 had one in it when I got it...it was all corroded and nasty. I found a NOS unit at a swap meet years ago and re-installed it....because my jeep had one in it...so I figured it belonged.armybuck041 wrote:Are you sure that wasn't a Canadian Ford built M38? I helped a buddy restore his M37... and we wondered what that was for...we figured it was for some kind of radio or power wiring... Only thing that made sense..

Its seems like a great number of the 38s from up here ended up in the US.

Cable received. Thank you Artillery Dan. As soon as it gets a bit warmer and I start to catch up with rifle builds, I will do the installation.

I saw one of the mounts you had a photo of on ebay. Buy now was $150 The AB-449g is for M38A1's. I think the AB 449 dose not have the spacers on the bottom for the M38. I am gong to put a 524 in my M38A1 so I have been looking for some of the same equipment.
