Carburetter Power valve

Unread post by johnfal » April 9th, 2011, 10:53 am

My mutt has a model 136608B carburetter. During servicing I felt that the power valve was a little too wobbly so decided to change it. At the shop where I bought the spares I was offered two types one with a recessed shaft had one with a protruding shaft. The one I took out was of a recessed type but I took one of each because I was curious about the other one. I put the recessed one in and refitted the carb and it runs OK.

My question is what would happen if I installed the other one. It seems that the one with the protruding shaft should be the one used because the flat plate on the diaphragm would actual push the valve open when the spring pressed against it.

The photo's below show the difference between the two types.

No response, not even from Rick or Ken. Maybe it is a dumb question or maybe nobody knows but I thought I would at least get a response from someone even if it was to tell me not to be stupid. The valve with the protruding stem was taken from a Mutt carb or so I was told but which model I don't know the guy told me he dismantled the carbs himself and took them out. I actually have two of them so if nobody has an answer I guess I will have to try it myself and see what happens. I already have my spare carb fitted with one so maybe this weekend I'll have a go.

Sorry John, I have been real busy. It has been a little while since I had one apart but I would lean towards the one on the left. I believe the other one is a one way valve to feed the accelerator pump circuit.
I will look at one when I get home. Today is going to be a 12 plus hour day so I may not get back to you today.
