I've seen this picture before, but it never ceases to amaze me that it happened.
What was he thinking just before, and just after the event?

Notice his hat hanging on the stacked racks? I guess he just hung it up and went home to await his pink slip.

And I always wondered where those little experimental planes came from. It actually looks like very little damage in that first one, almost none on the top plane. May be a strong smell on the cockpit though.

Probably a topless beach and the pilot just got a bit distracted.

This one is a good one!!!! Pilot landed in Miami and unloaded his cargo and made the decision that fuel was to expensive there so he took off for FT. Lauderdale where it was cheaper. As he was headed up the beach heading north to enter the patern at FLL, both engines lost power and pilot ditched just off the Lauderdale beach. All fuel tanks were empty. Aircraft then washed up on shore, hense the pic shown.

Must have been a rough ditch! I would not think the surf would rip a plane in half. Even if it did the other half would be there somewhere.

rickf, look at that pic again, there is no tail section, its gone. The props were not under power when it ditched or they would have been bent rotationally.
