Sam, you would know- did RPGs have proximity fusing?
About the guys not wearing any combat items or weapons- I suspect the jeep was brought back to a base's motor pool and that is where the photos were taken. At my base, all arms were secured in the armory shack between missions, too many accidents in 66 and 67 so they had to be locked up. The officers could keep their side arms but that was it, unless you were on perimiter duty.

I have never heard of a proximity fuze for the RPG-7 so I did some open source checking and could only find impact fuzes.

Mr. D. Very valid point and I have commented in the past on this. There was a picture of an MP jeep in front of the embassy and people were making comments about the vehicle and no mention of the two dead soldiers lying next to it. I was incensed about that one partly because of the insensitivity of the people and partly because I knew one of those guys on the ground. When bodies are shown then the utmost respect should be given and the pictures really should not be used to discuss a vehicle. In this case I doubt there was a fatal although I could be wrong but just does not show enough damage. I am sure someone was hurt but as 199th said you get immune to it.
And Top, You say you were above it but I seem to remember seeing a picture of your bird with a rocket hole in the windshield. Not far above it I would say.

I am far from an expert on RPGS so it could have been something else. Could have been a bouncing Betty as Matt mentioned but what set it off? Would have been under the vehicle. Who knows? Beside the guy in the jeep.Francis Marion wrote:I have never heard of a proximity fuze for the RPG-7 so I did some open source checking and could only find impact fuzes.

One of the other bouncers in a club I worked at was named Gutierrez. Or something like that. He was Puerto Ricon and was a wrestler in his home country. He was 6'8" and the nicest and quietest guy you would ever know. I only once saw him eject someone from the club, He picked the guy up with one hand and took him outside and set him down. He politely ask the guy not to return and then he came back in. It was funny because not only did the guy not come back but people coming in told us there was a guy standing outside looking like he was in shock. The following weekend the same guy shows up and asks for Jesus and thanks him for being so civil and polite. Turns out this guy has been thrown out of several clubs and rather violently. He came in several times after that and never was a problem. That was a lesson I took with me when I got into bounty hunting and found out that if you are polite you will have very few problems.Rainman wrote:Looks like they re-routed the fording kit, but that soldier doesn't look like Spec Rodriguez to me. Most Rodriguez's I knew were short guys.

Hood star is oriented correctly, but anyone notice the size and location
