Thanks, Seabee.

I have located one in Delaware and am in the final stages of acquiring it. AMG A2 and 416 trailer, both Delaware titled, and fully restored to a high standard (which I have had independently verified).

It is **not** a bargain vehicle, but I'm no great mechanic, and generally prefer to buy quality work. I also like that it comes very close to mimicking the M151 assigned to me back in Germany a LONG time ago. Mostly, it'll be a parade and very around-town vehicle spending nights, winters and rainy days inside.

looks very nice, i'm glad you found a good one. out of curiosity, does the hood number match the data plate? Does it have emissions parts?

Thanks,

Jim,

Thanks very much.

Yes, the hood number and data plate number match, and that's the number shown on the state title, too. The state required an inspection to be sure all this was kosher.

I'm not sure about the emissions parts. Is this important?

I'm just trying to figure out exactly what you have there... your hood number and dataplate are for a 1971 Ford A2, but the body tub is a newer AMG tub. The emissions part was to narrow down the year, no emissions =72-73, emissions 74-78. Take a look on the transmission hump, drivers side, about where your ankle would be behind the fuel lines and see if a tag is there. it would have the tub part number, a series (C151) and a sequence number on it. That would really narrow it down...

Jim,

This is a rebuilt vehicle, so it's quite possible the body is NOS AMG.

Jim,

FWIW, the title also shows AMG as manufacturer, although I realize that's no perfect guarantee. I know the engine was a crate motor added during the rebuild, and the transmission is NOS, too. So it's quite possibly a bit of a hybrid. To me, reliability and relative freedom from big mechanical issues is more valuable than perfect provenance, that being a debatable notion anyway for **any** Army vehicle since engine swaps and the like by the military were routine and accomplished with very little "paper trail" that would extend out 40 years.

All this said, I'm still curious as to your source for matching registration numbers to manufacturer.

just to be clear, In no way was i being critical of your jeep, it appears to be in great shape. I have one exactly like it, dataplates and all the running gear are 71 Ford, and the tub is a 74-75 AMG. There are a number of reasons the tub could differ, one possibility was that with the tendency to rust etc. and the ease of swapping mechanical parts, when a relatively low mileage mutt got damaged in an accident etc. it was more expedient and cheaper to swap everything over to a replacement tub rather than do bodywork. Any motorpool could transfer everything over in about 4 hours or so. A2's were made by Ford in 70 & 71 only. AMG made the rest. The way you can tell just by looking at them is the 70 ford had a flat bottom edge, 71 started the notched fenders. 72 started the side body drains with AMG , ford had floor drains. Some were assembled by people after the jeeps were surplused, some of the guys who had bought A2's that were demilled (cut) also bought the replacement tubs when they were surplused since they weren't demilled and combined them. Some guys also just swapped dataplates with older jeeps to be able to get historic plates sooner.... a lot of things went on with them back in the day.
