Electronic experts …
Here are a couple of pics from Acudanut. He is asking what is the correct way that this 60 amp should be hooked up. I just have a 25 amp so can't relate but from what I've read the 60 has an internal regulator so the box regulator on the cowl is superfluous and the conversion kit would be required to go from an old 25amp system to a 60amp. Correct?

Re: 60 Amp Alternator wiring question
Get rid of the voltage regulator, the 60 amp is built in. The #5 wire does plug into the one which will be removed from the adapter plug. The bolt on the side is the ground and field wire from the ignition switch will connect under the warning cover. Pay close attention to what it says on the cover!!! Disconnect the batteries.
See the alternator in the lower left of the diagram for the numbers and wire placement.

Re: 60 Amp Alternator wiring question
Where on earth is a coil located on a M1 and M1a.
Re: 60 Amp Alternator wiring question
The wire that you are asking where it goes, it goes to the battery side of the starter switch.acudanut wrote:vms1942 wrote:I need help with wiring a NOS 60 amp alternator.
Bare with me guys, this is the first M151 I have restored, but I need your help on this.
I bought a NOS 60 amp Alternator to install on an M151a1. The vehicle came with an aftermarket 60 amp alternator and the leads are cut, and I have replaced the wiring harness with a new one from Vintage Wiring of Maine.
The schematics that came with the harness show three wires going to the alternator, #5, #3, # 568, The new alternator has one wire coming from it which I assume plugs into the #5 by separating the metal connector (I don’t know why this connector came with a 60 amp harness, but it is tagged #5 and has a rubber connector to remove the metal connector.
My pictures can better describe my situation. I had a friend send me a photo of his 60amp alternator wiring and I placed my questions etc. on that photo which is included below.
Hopefully one of you M151 Guru's can tell me how to wire this?
Photo #1 : Wiring for alternator from Vintage Wiring of Maine
Photo #2: Inside Connector
Photo #3: Wiring connector on my NOS 60 amp alternator
Photo #4: Photo of my friends M151 (A2 engine?) 60 amp alternator / I have written questions, etc on the photo.
I too now have the same problem. The only wire coming from my jeep is a male 3 pin connection. No where to plug it in.

Oops, got mixed up in direction you were going with it in other thread. Wiki matches rick's answer. On the flip side, I was correct in getting a second opinion being advisable.

Re: 60 Amp Alternator wiring question
I have the problem as "vms1942 wrote". EXCEPT MINE IS A 66 WITH FACTORY WIRING. Can I just run the hot Gen. wire directly to the positive Battery or do I need to run it to the starter push button. ???

More better pic's sent from my embarqmail account. 100 percent better.
Looks like I am going to wire the Positive wire on the Gen. directly to the batteries.
Should work fine.
