I agree with HTN. I was not trying to put it down or discourage you. You were sounding like you wanted to do a ground up, parts perfect, factory resto, so I was just pointing out some things I saw that were not correct. It appears to be an excellent candidate for a restoration.

This is what mine looked like when I brought it home. When it's done I'll have replaced about 80% of the body. Feel better?

i think you have a lot to work with there, and just to give you a comparison, from one MP to another, here's how my A1 looked when i had to part with it last year.

so, is it your plan to set it up as an MP jeep? do you still have your old brassard? when i did the parade bit, the kids got a kick out of it, especially sitting in the driver's seat with an MP helmet liner on.

Sad to hear you don't have your jeep any more. Yes, my plans are to put the MP signs and unit markings on it like we had in Germany. If you go to "favorite pictures" and under "M151 in Germany in 63" you will see what I plan on doing. Won't duplicate it exactly as won't add the half doors, and the one I got had a M4 mount in it and I have the cradle and a replica M60 to mount. I also have a helmet liner and painted the MP on it with the white stripe around it like we had. The one that holds the key to the bank account around here seems to think I might have gone of the deep end, but "hey" I told her I am having fun.

If you have that engine lift chain on the rear lifting eye get it on the ground quick! That eye is nothing more than a 3/8 eye bolt and will snap right off with the chain at an angle. They make a special lifting jig but you can make one or buy one at Harbor Freight that spreads the chains so the lift is straight up.

Good advice right there. I've had the misfortune of one of these letting go. Was pumping the engine crane jack a wee bit aggressively which caused the pack to bounce a few times and then "snap".

The tag with the body number on the left hand frame rail was still intact. Has been confirmed by Ken "MUTTGRU" that it is a 62

We sanded on the hood to try and pull out any hood numbers that might have been under a ton of paint. We didn't have any luck but did find this. It looks to us as 6TH UNIT USA We were hoping for a 2D hood number, anybody got any ideas as to what this might mean?
