Why or why not keep this forum
I started this thread for people to discuss their views on why or why not to keep this forum up.
My opinion, We were starting to get bounced for doing what we had always done in the past with no problems. One person got mad at us and all hell broke loose. That is why I feel we need a page where we can share info and pictures if need be and throw in a little banter sometimes. As far as splintering the sites, People will always be looking for more sites. srplus dealer proved that with the list he put up. People will stay with the site THEY think is best for them. That is freedom of thought.

I agree with rickf, most want a platform to do what we used to do.
It has been made very clear that the old site was not going to
allow it. How well did they listen to the opinions they asked for?
So if splintering of the group has happened, why point the finger
at this site? This site is a result of that problem, not the source.

your comments are fully shared by me and i do believe both sites can exist while this one will prosper with the fellowship that was getting quashed on the other site.
Glad to see you guys made the trip over here.

Jim dont want to spoil your fun with the site BUT
I think it would have been better to work things out with Ron before you spent the time, energy and money to open up a "competing site".
Now you need two lion tamers to keep the wild animals at bay.
Just another opinion from some one out there who likes to hear what people are doing with MUTTS.

I will support any, and just about all, MUTT related sites. I didn't want to get into the pisstivity that occurred on the G, and don't really want it to follow here. Let's focus on making this a MUTT friendly site, and as long as we keep our hands and feet inside the vehicle while moving, no one should get hurt.
I noticed in the last issue of Supply Line (January-08), the vast, vast majority of the pictures in the ads, every members featured vehicle, most background vehicles in ads, were flat-fender jeeps. I was actually somewhat disappointed, and disgusted. The MV hobby is SO much more than flatfender jeeps (unless of course it's an M151, or A1!). I also get that feeling in certain events.
Oh well, rant mode is off. Thanks for the venting.
Keep this rolling, momentum takes time. Bill

Hey guys,
Look back at the G503. It started in Apr 97 and didn't start to take off until Dec 2002. It took over 5 years to get as many members as this site in 1 month. The Gee is much more diverse than this site with all the different vehicles it covers. Hell we are just a bunch of M151 folks! I hope both sites keep it going.
Moose when are we going to have our own T shirt and ball cap?

I'm working on doing a jeep registry and spotlite like on g503 for our jeeps, so the pics will rotate every couple hours, and we can have a database of our jeep info to help guys with their missing numbers. I just haven't advanced far enough yet to get that working yet, since this stuff is new to me. I think i'll have the live chat working this week though, and maybe the file downloads for the manuals too....

keep at it jim, already this site has a nice open spirit about it, people seem comfortable with posting anything, lots of pics, interesting guys, great stuff. seems like some newbies that were not active on the other site are active here, ooops, of course - forgot- they may have just changed their user ids
as you don't have any advertising, no apparent income for it, if you were to have a fee, i would be happy to pay it, perhaps others too.
nothing is really free that is worth while, .... well most things that is. It was free back then, no? well, just a coke and a hamburger!
remember someday soon you will need to replace the computer you are doing all this work on, etc.....

Here, here! Ditto on the user fee, don’t call it a fee, just donations. Set up a PayPal account. Jim, we all know this has cost something to set up, I know you said it wasn’t much but it was something. Not only monetary but the brain strain and the amount of time you have committed to this effort. As Bill pointed out perhaps a new computer and or an advisor that can help do what you really wish to accomplish. Anything too assists you in making this a bigger and even better site. I like the way the Steel Soldiers have it set up, no force or coercion, everyone sends in the amount he feels works.
I’m in awe of what you have done to date Jim, THANKS. I think all of us are here to help.

I think the two biggest mistakes the Gee made were; initially "guests" were allowed to post. There were a lot of insults because of the anonymous nature. That takes away people civility and inhibitions when they are "guest" (what a misnomer). The second was the politics forum. That brings out the worst in people because of their passion and the sensitivity of the issues. Me included. Those things alienate people. For some people posting is a little threatening a first, especially if they are dealt with unfavorably or someone is harsh or condescending with them. Some people are barely literate or English is not their primary language and they require a little patience. Some people from countries other than the USofA offer some great and interesting advice. Who cares if they use the wrong verb tense or a strange sentence construction. I really enjoying talking with people from the UK or Africa or... I really enjoy this site and think it will eventually be the premiere M151 site in cyberspace.
