There are supposed the be washers between the antennae bracket and the body to create a space between the two. Also need the backing brackets behind the fender.

Rick
Thanks for the information. this was just a mock up I had planned to track down the TM for instillation of the antenna mount so I can install correctly. I have the bracket by no hard wear so once I can find what I need I will fab up the reinforcement plates to do the job correct. I can tell this bracket was mounted without spacer as it is bent where it mounts to the spare tire mount. Guess the military did not follow instillation instructions lol.

Re: New to me m151a2
I was kind of surprised when I first saw the mounting instructions and the spec for the washers as spacers. I mean, how basic can you get? Must have worked, there were thousands of them out there. I am sure many were mounted without the washers by private bonehead who did not read the manual. And the motor pool Sergeant never walked away from his donuts and coffee to check.

Re: New to me m151a2
I was doing searches yesterday looking at pictures of mounts and looking for the instructions. I don't believe I saw one mount where people used spacers lol. When I put the mount on I was thinking why did they not use spacers to get around the tire carrier it just did not make since to me.

Re: New to me m151a2
I'm guessing but the spacers were probably only recommended to allow for overlap on the body panels and as with many things, along the way someone decided it was unnecessary given the conditions, expected hard use and projected life span of the vehicle, not to mention time saved and having an equally satisfactory job with or without spacers. Write all the doctrine you want and the mechanics will continue to quietly go their own way on such matters.
Take for example the mid-production Ford Taurus. Tech says, in order to R&R the ignition coil one must remove the entire intake manifold! The book time on the job is astronomical and it is total BS, of course. The coil is centrally located atop the rear of the engine and quite close to the cabin firewall. It is very hard to see but one only needs to reach around behind the intake manifold and undo the mounting bolts on either side that are easily accessible. Quite a simple job but one that must be done by feel alone. Follow the book and you'd be wishing you didn't.
So when it comes to Tech, I appreciate it's value but you'll often find I'm a fellow from Missouri.

Re: New to me m151a2
Time and labor books tended to written on the highly conservative side and sometimes I wondered about the procedures myself. I knew a civilian mechanic for the military and they were paid by the book time. If they were done sooner they sat around playing cards or playing ball. They were not allowed to start another job until the time ran out on the first one. Unbelievable. That was in the 60's so I am sure it has changed since then.

Re: New to me m151a2
And yet....still very cool that some of the information as minuscule as utilizing spacers as washers is still available to us. Well done, Rick!

Re: New to me m151a2
Does anyone have good pictures of the antenna mount support brackets that go on the inside of the fender? Measurements would be fantastic as well.

Re: New to me m151a2
Well its official all ROPS Kit holes and modification have been patched and welded up along with new rear fender supports installed. I welded the last piece of metal in Sunday on the tool box lid where they notched it out to clear the roll bar. Lucky enough the trashed body I was using for metal had a tool bx lid that had the corner piece I needed. Now the fun starts stripping paint and fixing the hole in the floor of the battery box but going to sandblast the battery box floor first to see how big the hole really is.
