Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Annnnnnnnd....it's back to the salt mines. Pulling the GTB back into it's slot using my new sheave. It's propped up on a barrel so as to keep the sheave in line with the pull. What a wonderful, labor saving device! Yes, the GTB rolls like a champ, but it's heavy. My suburban pulls it nicely at just ...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

A pleasant interlude between endless labor, yesterday we made the MUTT available for a U.S. Grunt Gear photo shoot. As per usual, I cannot say with any certainty that it will actually make it into print but that's their business, not mine. For the most part, we hauled everything over and then sat ar...

Re: Turn Signal Q's

Just a thought, but I'm guessing that bulb is going to be the same bulb you'd find in use on the instrument panel. No guarantees but it kinda makes sense.

Cheers,
TJ

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Nope, I borrowed that one from a fellow LEO. I always return the trailer better than I got it. Wiring, a reflector (or two) a repair weld, a bearing pack, or what-have-you always makes him happy to have loaned it to me. Glad you mentioned that crack issue. The rating tag says 2015. I'll look it over...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Well, last week was really something. Started the week by picking up my latest purchase for the GTB which is a bed from an M105 trailer and a used fuel tank and working fuel pump for the 6x6. One stop shopping in a sleepy little town called China Grove. Yup....THAT China Grove. We came prepared with...

Re: Turn Signal Q's

Interesting turn signal switch.

Good to see folks rolling up their sleeves and digging into stuff. It is easy to simply replace certain things but one doesn't get a sense of what makes things tick doing that. I hope Surveyor has taken pictures throughout the process to share!

Cheers,
TJ

Re: Green vinyl top

May well be that the seam sealer that we are all seeing with "new" vinyl tops is a result of our buying stores that did not pass inspection and were refused by the government. Or, it may well be normal. I left mine as delivered. Straightening the back windows is problematic. Laying them flat to warm...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Ok, lads, this next bit is going to be rather long-winded and for those of you who have earned your stripes, it will probably be rather boring (you have been warned). While the topic of discussion appears to be something other than our beloved M151s, the fact is I am writing about technique. So for ...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Actually, you missed the most obvious second option which is to deflate the tire, if not already deflated, mount the wheel on the vehicle and drive it flat, making turns until the bead breaks loose. This is predicated on the idea that one has a vehicle that actually runs and the space to run it in (...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

So, when I posted last I had one REALLY obstinate tire that refused to separate from the rim but not nearly as bad as this one! As you can see here, it's really hanging in there. I picked up this particular rim and tire in Missouri which is a place that gets far more rain than Texas and in the case ...

Re: Sluggish when starting

Hey, let's check those grounds and electrical contacts from time to time, people. These are old vehicles that haven't seen a lot of real military maintenance in quite a while and to be fair, the military had these when they were new , so if you are the entire maintenance team and you're keeping your...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

Front wheels are finally off the half track in preparation for new tires. It turned out the suddenly-leaking tire was simply a misbehaving valve but I am getting ready to replace tires, tubes and flaps, so no matter. I will be glad to finally be rid of the 9x20s and get the 8.25x20s on. Temps have b...

Re: M416 Parts

And, be aware that those clip assemblies are used on MANY M-series trailers so don't be afraid to make your search more broad when you are asking for them. As for the cover, so simple to make! If you get stuck, I could take measurements and create a template for you and you could have it produced lo...

Re: Beverly Hillbillies

More good news this morning when we turned over the half track motor for the first time in...uhhh...11-12 YEARS! Stuck valves on number 2 and number 6 cylinders. Flatheads are notorious for this. So, I redosed the cylinders, turned her over again so as to splash some MM oil up onto those valves and ...
