Re: Question on Modifying Military VHF Antennas

Having the antenna at the correct length is critical for transmitting but not so important for receive only. If the SINCGARS one is similar to the earlier model, it is a dipole, centre fed. so cutting it is only cutting one end of the dipole. There really is no need to butcher the antenna. I am sure...

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications

Thanks for that. I can see why they defer to you on things electrical with the MUTT!

Will get it done over the next few days and report back - been sitting around 38C here the last few days and forecast 33C the rest of the week so it is not much fun working in the shed right now :(

Regards

Howard

Re: Rear turn signals.......Modifications

Ah, so for me it is even easier if I read this correctly. I have left the rear lights as all red so there is no need to swap 23 and 22-460/22-461 as it will all work as before. HOWEVER I have a trailer with red stop light and yellow turn lights. To make that work without turning on the turn lights a...

Re: NATO Trailer Plug Wiring

Yeah, correct. I have had another thought: connect the left brake light in parallel with the left tun light and do the same on the right. Then I will have red brake lights but yellow will also come on. Turn signals will work correctly but I will have both red and yellow flashing. That is probably no...

Re: NATO Trailer Plug Wiring

Thanks Rick. Sounds like a heap of trouble. However, as you have now confirmed there is no way to do this without modifying the existing wiring, I will try another approach. I have replaced the original brake light switch with a hydraulic switch. If I apply power to that and run the output lead to t...

NATO Trailer Plug Wiring

I have an RAAF trailer which has left and right (yellow) turn indicators, left and right red tail lights, white number plate lights, left and right red brake lights. The turn indicators, obviously, are wired separately to the trailer plug, the tail and number plate lights are wired together to the pl...

Re: 91 octane ethanol free gas question

Interesting. In Australia 91 has ethanol but because it is below the legislated limit, about 4% I think, they don't have to label it as such and generally tell people there is no ethanol! Consequently I use a higher octane rated petrol that genuinely does not have ethanol in it. Costs more, but I fi...

Re: A-2 Fuel Pumps Question

I replaced mine with one that was on the list of substitute parts - can't remember the model number now but it was for an Australian early-60s Chrysler. The fittings for the fuel line were different but that was no problem. Works 100%.

Re: More fuel issues, i guess?

There are many on this forum far more knowledgeable than me but sometimes an ignoramus can come up with something useful... I had strange problems with my LandRover Series that had a points ignition system. Turned out to be the springs on the weights controlling advance. Now the symptoms were not id...

I guess you have checked Enzed who may be able to help or put you onto the right people? Not sure if Pirtek are in NZ but they were tremendously helpful on a similar problem recently.

Re: Headlights??

I bought LED headlights for my Defender on eBay for much less than that and they have been fine. The old lights were the source of my H4 lights for the MUTT.

Re: Headlights??

I needed some recently and found that a number of suppliers had correct sealed beams gathering dust in their store rooms. Of course that is no use to you as I am in Australia, but given that this is in a town of some 160,000 people I would imagine there would be plenty in the US. After dropping a co...
