California MVCC Tower Park meet

The 35th annual Spring meet for the Military Vehicle Collectors of California will be held April 19 thru the 25th at the Tower Park KOA campground in Lodi, California. The campground is located 5 miles west of the intersection of Highway 5 and 12 in Lodi. This is the largest military vehicle meet we...

Minerva morale receiver

I recently picked up a Minerva Tropic Master morale receiver and would like to restore it to original condition. It's fully operational but the case has some very light rust and discoloration. I plan to have it stripped and then do a crinkle gray refinish on it. The front panel Minerva and Tropic Ma...

Re: Radio question

Using a PRC-6 for this is almost as good as 2 cans and a string besides the fact that transmitting on 6 meters requires a license from the FCC. There are no batteries commercially available and the radio is crystal controlled so changing the frequency requires getting into the set itself. And why wo...

Re: PRC 77 Mounts

The canvas backpack specifically for the 25/77 is the St-138. The Alice packs and frames were also used to carry the radios in the field. The pack has an internal pocket to hold the radio, the frame used a clip on base shelf and straps to hold the radio in place.

Re: Congrats to Ron Fitzpatrick

The only downside to Rons Award is that the MVPA should have recognized him years before instead of feeling threatened by the G503 site. The world of MV restoration and collecting isn't that large and anyone or any thing that promotes the hobby in a positive manner benefits everyone involved. Everyo...

Re: RT-524

Rainman,

All of the audio in the 524 goes through the X Mode plug on the front panel as a part of the crypto installation. If this plug is loose or missing you'll get the symptons you're having.

Re: WTB RT-524 Radio Cover CW-649 VRC

Rainman, There are some drawbacks to these covers you may not be aware of. The covers were originally designed to help keep the radios clean and dry when mounted on the back of the vehicles and exposed to the elements. They forgot that there is a circuit inside the radio that turns on the blower whe...

Re: M416B1

As far as I know the B1s were only pulled behind the Mighty Mite by the Marines. I don't know why the Army never adapted the extra can carriers but I love them. I usually have a water can on one side and a fuel can on the other. The other change most people miss is the lifting loops the Marines inst...

Re: gauge lenses

I've used Simichrome polish for years to clean up gauges. Put it on your fingertip and polish the lense while you're watching TV. I've also used toothpaste but it needs to have some abrasive in it and not the "gel" type.
