Square Rearview mirror

Unread post by m270mlrs2 » January 10th, 2021, 7:02 pm

Good evening I am looking for 2 square rear view mirrors. It has the round one now but it’s old and rusty I figured might as well upgrade to the square one and add a left side mirror while I am at it. Thanks again

Was the round mirror the early style and te square mirror the later style? I've got a round one on my A2 and a rectangular one on my A1, that's how they came. Are they backwards? I may have a rectangular mirror in the parts stash, don't know how good the mirror is, I'll check.

square is late, don't know when they switched from round to square one, my 1972 "Barstow" came with the round one, one of the first things I changed

The M151’s never had factory square mirrors, nor a mirror arm on the passenger side. I have all the 20-P’s and 34-P’s up to the last one in 1988. The round mirror is the only one listed. I have had this come up several times when judging M-151’s at regional vehicle shows or the MVPA convention. However, the M-715 Cargo Truck started production in 1967 with square mirrors on both sides. If a Commander approved or a driver or mechanic just wanted to, then they ordered an M-715 mirror and put it on either side. Mirrors are a throwaway item; in that you do not have to turn one in to get one unlike something that could be repaired in the motor pool or the depot.

Kevin, interesting fact, did not know. Good thing there are many photos of the 151A2 in service having a rectangular mirror. So I can keep mine ;)

If any of you guys want to put a mirror on the passenger side and dont want to fuss with crawling under the dash and fighting with the heater I am offering a simple bracket that allows you to mount it to the windshield hinge.
