RE: Fill Cap for M416A1 Master Cylinder

Wanted. A replacement master cylinder filler cap/plug for an M416A1 trailer (this is the trailer with the hydraulic over-ride brake system).

At the weekend I decided it was time to check the brake fluid level even though the trailer hasn't been used for two years. Unfortunately, the cap is aluminum and it had reacted with the threaded casting. Despite a good soaking in penetrating fluid and gentle heating, it took a hammer and chisel to eventually unscrew the cap.
There are two types of cap...this one (pictured) and a replacement dome-shaped steel cap. Either will be fine as replacements.

The part numbers etc are:-
alloy cap - (old version) 2530-00-862-6822
steel cap (new version) 2530-01-131-7527

If you have either type for sale, please let me know.... if you know anyone who might have one, I'd appreciate any help.

PS although the original type looks identical to the mutt master cylinder cap, this one is bigger. The threaded area of the cap is one-and-a-half inch in diameter.

diameter.
Thanks
Ken
Kind regards....

I googled for a minute and apparently this civilian part is the same:

https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories-an ... 10614.html

Maybe you can track down parts from the link?? Just a suggestion.

also this from Steel Soldiers:

Surge Brake:
I found that the master cylinder from "53-64 CJ-3B" can work. I found it at Kaiser Willys (Part #805223) for $50.00. The surge brake system on mine is made by Toledo Hydro-Act and is still currently in production. Their replacement cost is $130. The one I received from Kaiser Willys was perfect. One thing though.. they painted it, then machined it. All the machined areas are NOT rust proofed. You will need to paint the master cylinder prior to install. Rustoleum spray paint is your friend.

My memory may be cloudy, but I seem to remember that that trailer master cylinder is the same as used on the M38/M38A1 and civilian counterparts.

Ken, I am thinking that may have been a civilian part to begin with, notice the marking on your cap stating DOT 3 fluid. Military used DOT 5 and I don't think their caps are marked.

Ken,

Your P/N's listed are actually federal stock numbers. This is what we used in the military when ordering parts from supply. Anyhow they do cross to actual manufacturer part numbers.

2530-00-862-6822 is tied to part number F16500 which happens to be a Fed Mogul Wagner part. Looks like there is one on the auction site.
https://www.ebay.com/p/4022753876

2590-01-131-7527 is tied to part number 622794-x which was produced by MENDENHALL INDUSTRIES CORPORATION and BALCRANK PRODUCTS INC. However this part was superseded by the following below:

2590-01-388-2416 is tied to part number 12331725-2 which is also produced by MENDENHALL INDUSTRIES CORPORATION and BALCRANK PRODUCTS INC.
This is the most current in the federal parts system and is used on the M101 trailers.

I hope this helps making your search easier.

Cheers,
Tim
