Only a week to go but still too far from Wisconsin for a day trip. Do have a few friends who said they will convey my hello's, Bill Peasley says he knows quite a few of you mutt nutts and I do see him every September here in NW WISC. He is trying to wear out my 47 Dodge WDX. Also Rick Wark, who is the Kilroy of photo ops. And at least 2 of the current MVPA board members who live close by. Mention Wisconsin to them and they will know me or Kevin K. Enjoy the show, even on a down year it sounds fantastic to us jackpine savages.

ABERDEEN UPDATE!!!!!

Okay fellas, heres the skinny on the Aberdeen event pertaining to vendors, display area, and civi vehicle and trailer parking. A friend of mine and fellow MV buff that follows our forum made some contacts pertaining to all the questions and concerns about the coming event. Here goes...

Kevin wrote:
I have seen some conflicting opinions of this years Aberdeen show on
various website forums and wanted to get the record straight from you. There is
some question about the amount of vendors this year being down significantly is
this true? Also the one that concerns me most is the parking is limited with
no on site parking for tow vehicles. Is this true? I am hoping to bring my
Weasel on a trailer behind my pick-up but will need somewhere to park my truck
and trailer. Maybe unhitch my trailer for a few days so I don't have to drag
it around to dinner and the hotel all weekend. Any help will be appreciated See
you in 2 weeks.

the reply...

Thanks for your inquiry.

To answer your first question, ALL spaces are sold out and we have a Waiting
List. As I recall there are around 460 spaces, so I don't see where there
will be any fewer vendors.

Regarding parking, the Stadium folks screwed up and gave away our
"regular" weekend. However, considering the weather we've had,
that turns out to be a good thing.

We did have to "lose" Rows A-B-C to parking. However, we just moved
the Display area around to compensate.
If you check the website and look at this year's layout you'll see

As for parking a trailer, depending on which motel you're using, most will
let you park it there OR you can park in the unused paved area which is where -
eventually- there will be condo buildings but now there is nothing but pavement.
This is the area on the left as you drive in. You'll see the one condo
building and open,. paved space to the right of it.

I'll be on-site all day Wednesday on to help setup so if you are confused
about the condo area I referred to, just come find me.

That's as much detail as we've had, so thanks Kevin for your efforts on our behalf. My plans have changed to arriving on Thursday afternoon, staying at the event till Friday after the dinner, and possibly going rockfish fishing on a charter with a non MV buddy on Saturday. You up for the fishing trip Rick?

Rainman, That trailer parking info is quite a bit different from the info I got from the organizers but we will see. I would love to go fishing but I have to be back Sat. afternoon. I know you don't go on the 503 anymore but there is a post over there named "what to look for in a mutt". Ralph put up a picture of his fishing partner. I want to fish with Ralph!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys,

Hours before I leave for, as Mrd would put it, band camp. My cell for those that want to check in to "Rainman's Aberdeen Check-in net" is (330) 606-0091. Also on 51.00Kz FM for "Radio Rainman" check-in's. Give me a shout and "check-in" to the "Radio Rainman Aberdeen 09 event net". Give me till 0500 EST at least so I can rest before my 7 hr drive, will arrive at 1300 hrs. After that, I'm fair game. Check in's will be recorded and posted at a later date. My battery is a weak one, so short and sweet check-in's please. If it goes to voice-mail, record your check-in, as it also officially counts. Rainman's Aberdeen check-in begins in 5 hrs. Be there or be square...

Aberdeen Update...
Great show. Met up with Rick shortly after I arrived. We spent the day spendin money. Found lots of radio wants and a few antennas. Saw RivRad, KCGonzo, Diamond Jim, and Tbanks today. There's a reason Rick drives around at this event. I actually got lost in the isles, and and have no idea at the end of the day what I saw and what I didn't get to yet. Miles of isles, and lots of OD :D

Patience Baios! We are stil here. I am leaving today around lunchtime and I think Rainman is staying all day. Beautiful weather all day both days so far and today looks to be the same but a little hotter. Lots of trucks but only three mutts including mine. None in the judging. That made my days real easy but I was looking forward to seeing more for pictures. Pictures will follow.

I need to find out how to post pictures in bulk. I have a lot of pictures from Aberdeen that I want to put up but with Webshots I have to copy the url from each picture and then paste each one on the page. That could take many hours.

sign up to photobucket. You can upload multiple files at one time, once they are all uploaded then you go through and copy and paste. With photobucket you don't need to right click to copy you just point at the IMG and it copies automatically, then you come here and right click and paste. ORRRR upload onto photobucket all your photos into a heading like "Aberdeen 2009" then just post a link to Aberdeen 2009, then we can just go to your photobucket and look at all the pictures there. Thats what a lot of guys do who don't want to copy and paste from one site to the next. http://www.photobucket.com

OK, Lets see if I can do this right. Pictures from Aberdeen from start to finish. Notice the fun I had right at leaving time, flat tire!

This was how it looked at 08:00 Thursday when I got there.

Parking for trailer rigs was at a premium! I am off of the pavement on the grass, it drops off pretty steep right next to me.

Dammit! Just what I needed after wandering Aberdeen for three days, This as I was leaving!

Done and done, glad I brought a spare.
Lesson to be learned here, do not use light truck tires on a trailer. They are not designed to handle the side loads involved in sharp turns.

Well, that's all I have, I know Rainman will be putting in his report when he gets a chance.
