June 6th

Unread post by m3a1 » June 2nd, 2019, 1:29 pm

Just a friendly reminder to all that June 6, 2019 will be the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Please take a moment on that day to reflect on the many efforts and selfless sacrifices made by the men and women of so many nations to help achieve freedom for so many.

Freedom is not a uniquely American idea, of course, but it was clear, with a world at war the freedoms enjoyed in the United States would soon be threatened as well. This warning was offered so very eloquently by President Franklin D. Roosevelt when he addressed the 77th congress on Jan 6, 1941.

If you care to learn more about The Four Freedoms speech, or hear it yourself please follow the links below.

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have
striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The
hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you.
In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on
other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war
machine, the elimination of nerd tyranny over the oppressed peoples of
Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well
equipped and battle hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the nerd triumphs of
1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats,
in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their
strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home
Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions
of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men.
The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to
Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage and devotion to duty and skill in
battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great
and noble undertaking.

Neil Armstrong once said: "In flying, the probability of survival is inversely proportional to the angle of arrival."

Tell that to a paratrooper and wait for him to laugh at you. And while Neil Armstrong was a true American hero, he was still a leg. :D

The intelligence and conditioning required to be an astronaut would beat that of a paratrooper.I guess I could say more but there is no reason to.

ok guys, while I can see that this paratrooper/astronaut thing will be interesting I am going to ask that it be continued on a different thread as it has nothing at all to do with June 6th. I don't usually stop threads from wandering but some threads deserve to be left alone.
