M151 Rally Possibilities??

Unread post by Cobra5 » July 23rd, 2019, 7:16 pm

Has there ever been an effort to put on a M151 specific get together? I see there is one for Dodge Power Wagons and Willys jeeps. Granted that both of these events are a mix of military and civilian vehicles in their respective class so participation is more wide spread. Meanwhile while our vehicles are mainly military there are however Growlers and Titans out there. I don't know how much interest there is within our specific group of owners/enthusiast to participate in an event of this nature.

I am sure there would be interest but the problem is where would it happen. I would love it but I am in an income bracket that certainly does not allow me the luxury of trucking my vehicle all the way across the country and you guys out on the left coast and have the best places to go. Really the only LEGAL places left to go! Look at the amount of participation in the cross country convoys! They have that one in France every year in the Alps, I don't know if it is still happening but a couple of our members participate in that one.

Rick I had you and others in your situation in mind when I was thinking about the possibilities of an event. I guess the first thing would be to know where the vast majority of 151 owners are geographically located by regions, i.e. NE, SE, Midwest, NW, SW, before looking at locations. Also whats the furthest distance most folks are willing to travel to attend?

North Central PA here. I just drove 9 hours one way (with stops) to go to the Weare show. I'd be willing to travel that far for a 151 gathering.

NJ and would travel 5-6 hours but accommodations play a big part. What I have seen in the past with shows is motels are either expensive or bug ridden and camping is non existent in most places.

Thanks to Ken for answering my question on another post. How does a 3 day event in either South Bend Indiana or Highland Park Michigan sound for a rally location?

Well, South Bend is 11 plus hours and 710 miles from me and Highland Park is 10 hours and 630 miles away. Highland does have appeal for one reason though, there was a user on the site here many years ago that threatened to kick my a** and swore if I was ever in his neighborhood he would do so. He neglected to give his neighborhood but he did not account for the fact that he was talking to an old skip tracer! I had no problem tracking him right to his door and even had one of the brothers in arms in the trade stop by and tell him I said hello. Nothing more, just that I said hello. The fact that the guy was 6'6" and 325 may have had a little intimidation factor but it is strange that I NEVER heard from that guy again. I would like to visit him in person though. Oh, And the description I got from the guy who met him was just what you would expect from a keyboard warrior using a made up idiotic username.

Let's all go and pay a visit!

Well I have been driving up to the Findlay show for the last few years so SB and Highland Park are not that much farther. Hauling the M151 slows me down a good bit.

What about creating a M151 Zone in the up coming MVPA show in 2020 at Findlay?

Well if ya'll do Highland Park then everyone should park at the Model T Plaza parking lot (old test track area) and take a picture for posterity.

Edit - Everyone could eat at Captain Jay's Fish and Chicken in the middle... Fast-food chain featuring Cajun-style chicken & seafood, plus homestyle sides & basic grocery items. Highly doubtful!

It should be specific to our vehicles just like this forum is setup. If we segregate as a group at another event, it would take away from that event.

It would be 1900 miles for me traveling to Highland Park. It would be great to hear from someone that's familiar with these two areas.

Coastal Virginia, I would travel 5-6 hours for such a meet if there was a decent group and places to ride. The upcoming Graves Mountain Rally would be a great place to get a group together, during the event or a stand alone. Camping available, several lodging options, lots of trails to ride. Central East Coast location. Have not decided if I am going this year but would go if a bunch of 151'ers were going.
