Locking the Hood

Unread post by acudanut » September 23rd, 2019, 10:07 pm

Going to a Horse camp/trail ride for 6 days in Southern Mo. 1,500 people who drink, ride and sometimes cause trouble. I am taking my 62, but the only concern I have not addressed, is how to lock the hood. Ideas ?

How about a cable lock small enough in diameter to fit between the space between the hood and the forward brace and long enough to wrap over radiator and around a horizontal spacer in the front grill. Things to worry about...
1) No slack that would get into fan
2) Scratching the paint
3) Somebody forgets, yanks up on the hood and it bends the grill.

Or no lock and Image it.

Not going to go into detail since a family site but once had neighborhood kids fooling around with the AC unit at night. Strategically placed some purple Rit dye which ended up all over one of them. Cops found them soon after... caught purple handed.

Also, I leave it to the reader to make sure safe search is on/off before searching for Booby Traps or you might get the same looks my wife gave me before I could explain.

My suggestion would be that if you are hanging with a crowd that likes to damage or screw with antique vehicles either leave that vehicle home or plan on handing out some arse whoopin's. Or just don't go. I have absolutely no time for people like that.

Rick, 99 percent are great folks down there. But in my line of work, I trust no-one. You could say I am a little paranoid. In God I trust, everyone else NO. lol

You might consider fabricating some little plates with rings welded to them and mount them inside the hood. They would have to share the bolts that hold the hood tie-down anchor which is on the outside of the hood. From those rings you can run a cable down to some anchor point below (where it would be padlocked) and no one would be the wiser.

Option two might be a little more obvious and have a far less 'correct' look about it. Attach a cable to the forward engine lifting ring and run it up through the second slot in the top of the hood. Far easier said than done because it would have to be pretty much exactly long enough to go that far and no longer. Then a padlock through the cable eye as it protrudes through the hood and you're done.

But I'm with Rick. If you're not getting a warm fuzzy about going to a certain location....don't go!

Cheers,
TJ

DONE FIXED THAT CONCERN. Surveyor might post a picture. The cable is not on when driving it.
Just a deterrent, won't be easy to jack with anything. Cheers.
BTW I always have a club, oc, Gun and handcuff's. lol

I see you replaced the pins with nuts/bolts for the shackles as well.
