Unread post by mike_v » March 2nd, 2020, 2:12 pm

Wow, up to $10K already and 6 days left in auction...

Seller has an engine compartment to die for... I did notice non-issue radiator hose clamps - RickF will find more...

Went along with him in 2007 to pick it out.
Truly a work of love over a long time
Has been at the Weare show several tomes and it is as good close up as it is here.
Let the bidding begin!

Small world you two know the builder.

Yes, it looks museum (and mil vehicle show) quality for sure.

My goal is to get my engine compartment looking that nice! I'll be pulling the power-pack to degrease, re-seal, paint and reinstall in the future...

It is really nice and unlike the WWII judging I never dinging people for things like different clamps and not having all of the nuts aligned in the proper direction! What a crock for a military vehicle. There is a movement on now to start changing the judging for the M151 to something like that. Even motor pool restoration would have to look almost like a new vehicle to pass the class. That there is a very nice vehicle but I have a question for you. If you had that vehicle would you take it on a trail ride? I seriously doubt it because it would never ever be that clean again underneath. So basically a vehicle like that is a trailer queen and a parade vehicle and that is it. If I have a military vehicle I want to drive it. Keep your GN if you want show and shine.

The fellow who owns that vehicle lives in Rhode Island .
Several times he drove all the way to the Weare show on its own power.
That is not a trailer queen.
Have some pics of what bought .
Truly a great restoration!.

Dang, did I touch a nerve? :o Those clamps look fine and I'll probably have to do the same since I looked for originals and cannot find them (so far). Just, I read your comments before "catching items" to include the compliment to the seller of my MUTT on "correct" star washers and Grade 8 bolts for the radio antenna mount when he listed it here...

Maybe I'll do a "mild" trail ride, but never the "mud over the hood" kind... My 84 M1009 is for that (unrestored)... 8)

My GN has 105k miles on it, but looks like a 30k mile one. From the factory, it was governed at 120 mph (because of tires and front end "lift") - I have had mine to 160 mph. I love "top speed"... :P

At $51,100 I'd say that was a good buy for its condition and trailer/parts. Well Done, hope the buyer shows up on the G!
