Tribute to Seabee62...

Unread post by mike_v » March 5th, 2020, 1:21 pm

Look what I found on Steel Soldiers Classifieds  :
100_8454.JPG
Looks like those "thieves" snagged an Army M925, put the drilling unit on the back, sold the front winch and put their "logo" on the door...

I saw that door with your logo and thought "Admiral Seabee's boys snagged that 5 ton from the dumb Army boys and re-purposed it for their use"...

Actually, I was going to delete this post since no one commented - must be that "golden hammer" you have scared everyone from commenting...

"Request permission to be dismissed Admiral" - got to get back to insulating the house sir... 8)

No I didn't know Admiral that you built houses before! :D Come on down...

This is my first "stick built" house and my Pilot driving buddy lead the framing. his one son the electrician and other son HVAC. 8)

They have pulled off the job, I have plumbing left (another buddy doing that), then drywall (paying a Mexican crew to do that) then the trim-out to finish. Goal is to finish by Nov 1st and coincides with drawing my first SS check (yeah, I'm "cashing in" at 62... ).

I don't mind the house building stuff, but I am "slow" at it... :(

I really prefer to get greasy working on vehicles and put my 5 ton on hold till I get the girls moved in. I am redoing the interior (cab) which includes striping it out, re-painting CARC 383 and installing all new gauges, weatherstripping, insulation, seat covers, decals, etc... Mechanical work (will be done before interior) will be all new brakes (to include air brake chamber diaphragms) and fluids changed - (oil done already)... All parts bought and sitting on the shelves waiting for me. 8)

Mike..we have Seabees in all those trades, and when I was in, we were cross rated to finish what we started... Enjoy your project... I designed our house and did general contracting with subs...the only problem I had was dealing with the City ...and their "made on the spot" regs....ha ! By the way..my home town really isn't too far from you...take care, SEABEE

Same here Admiral. I designed my 40' x 50' "addition" on CAD and connected it to the old house via a 16' long x 10' wide covered "breezeway" (hallway). Actually no problem with the county codes people - I have a young guy inspector who has been easy to work with - just the various permits were expensive... Same here, me as the "general contractor" and sub-ed out the concrete, brick, roofing, electric and HVAC. Was going to pay our helper $2k to do my siding, but bought my own brake for $2500 and will do it myself...

Maury County still using ICC 2012 (and IRC 2012) codes, so I didn't have to do a sprinkler system, but had to follow more recent electrical codes (that means more expensive circuit breakers, but I found them on eBay for half price...).

I feel your pain - usually, when an inspector makes up the rules on the spot, that usually means they don't know the rules (codes) to begin with...

Here are a few pics:

Take care Admiral!

PS: Where is your "hometown"?

In all due respect to Seabee, Cape Girardeau is a nice place. (God, I can't believe I'm saying this :x )

It is a good mix between small town friendliness where everyone knows you and the amenities available from a larger town. Probably the biggest small town in Missouri.

Tom

Sue has been wanting to get down there for a while but has been working long hours 6-7 days a week for the Corps. The Corps of Engineers has been replacing the hinges on the lock chamber gates at Lock and Dam 24 here in Clarksville. It is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job. Must have the river open for shipping by April 1. She is doing a lot of the QC for the Corps. Hope to get there around Easter. Will give you a call when we do make it. Hope we can get together for a drink.
