Site Donation

Unread post by Hambone » May 14th, 2020, 8:26 pm

So, I've not mentioned this to Rick but I know the IT support isn't free and anyone's time is worth something, so I'm pledging a donation to Rick for his time and effort and to cover the maint. cost. :D I hope everyone will follow and try to make a small donation to the cause, I'm sure $5,$10 or $20 would be very helpful. I'm not starting a "Go Fund Me" account, so Rick, if you have a Paypal account, PM it to me, if not, send your address, I have it somewhere, just don't want to look for it. Hambone

Ok guys, all noted and appreciated. I will need to do a bit of research into how I need to do this because I can't mix this with my personal accounts. And right now the banks are closed except for drive through so opening a new account is out. I could set up a Paypal account but I simply do not trust leaving money in Paypal, period. They are not a bank, the money is not protected or insured. The site is paid for by Moose who does not even visit here anymore so transferring it to him would be complicated. I need it to go directly for IT work. Give me a day or two to work this out.

Just let us know how to make payment, I have no problem putting the check in the mail, when you decide how you want to handle it, I will put out another reminder, it will be nice to have a nest egg when site needs upgrades and maintenance.

Go idea. I’m in. I make regular donations to Taco Bell and McDonalds. This site is much more worthy than either of those. ☕️🍩

On some sites, they have a button on the top like we have the "quick links, FAQ, G838 Resource List, and such" . The link would say something like "Donate now" or "Help keep this place open" or some way to donate to the site.
Talk with your IT guy and see if he can add a link like that. The funds come in on that link only, you would not need to funnel anything through your personal accounts. Also, you choose how to take payments.....Paypal, credit card....what have you. You would most likely need to send to a new, dedicated account....that I don't know.
I have used these links on other sites to help them out.
Thank you for taking this on. ODG
Still crazy after all these years.

Rick,

I know back in the beginning there were a few members who, are no longer with us, that started the donation drive for Moose and it was going through Paypal. Might be worth checking with Moose on how he dealt with it instead of recreating the wheel. I did notice that after Moose bought the domain that he was going to have Ad banners to help with the cost. I definitely would keep it out of your personal finances because NJ can smell money

And me too from across the pond (UK England). G838 has saved my skin on many occasions.
Mind you the way things are going we could all be back to bartering stuff. Would PayPal accept a box of potatoes?

I finally got the sites e-mail set up on my computer. I am now going to look into setting up a Paypal account but I need to tie that into a real account and that is where I am running into a road block. To set up a savings account you need to keep a pretty sizable amount in there at all times or they charge a large chunk in monthly service fees. So that will not work. I can tie it to my credit card but I do NOT want to ever be accused of misappropriation of funds. And you KNOW that someone will do that somewhere down the line.
