We did them all. The extreme was pretty intense! When we started at the trail head, a group on 4 wheelers and a side by side were coming out. One of the riders gave us all the sign of the cross! The last set of pictures are from part of that ride. They do not do it justice

I expected nothing else as an appropriate answer :)

I assume the 151 was comparable to the CJ2/MB Jeep’s, just doing it a little more comfortable…

Overall, I would say yes, comparable. However, I think they had an advantage with low range / 1st gear when it came to rocky conditions.

I had realized the K&N filters first time I looked at it but not the power steering pump. Dual carb is probably also not stock ;)

I had, probably still do, the chance to but the twin carb manifold for my M37. But then you need the two carbs and the whole raft of other stuff involved in hooking it all up and it was just too much effort for the little gain you get. Why do I want to hot rod a 70 year old motor? If I am going to do that then I am going to drop an old 413 max wedge in there. Go big or go home!

Horst, the power steering, alternator and carbs are all kind of not stock. The carbs are actually a stock Chrysler item, I don't remember exactly what they were used on but it was some heavy duty application. Then again, the disc brakes I put on mine are not stock but they are a LOT cheaper than trying to find brake drums for that vehicle. About the only choice are the ones that Midwest military is having made new and they are somewhere around 500 apiece! I paid that for the entire disc brake setup with bearings, hubs, rotors, calipers and even original M37 locking hubs.

What's the story behind the twin intake for the M37? This one looked homemade. Was someone actively modifying them? Was this oem for something else?

The dual carbs for the flathead 6 are a stock item for some Chrysler products. Not the military ones though. But the manifold is a bolt on conversion if you want to go that route. From the limited view I see it looks like the factory dual carb manifold. But again, it was not used on the M37.

This was optional factory equipment 1 1/2 ton and up. Chryco made several big 6's including a 413 cubic inch for over the road trucks. Those truck engine are the long block version so they will fit chyrsler, desoto and Canadian manufactured automobile 6's. The 300+ and 413 6's were 30 or 33 inches long can't remember for sure so their manifolds (a tripple intake was available) were only for those engines.

Now, if the one you saw has two two barrel carbs on it then it is an aftermarket. There were a lot of them made by Offenhauser, Edelbrock, Edmunds, Thickstun.

Yesterday a group of us did 225 miles. Left the house a little after 8 am and were home around 7:30 pm. Packed a lunch and had a picnic on the way. I started the weekend off Saturday morning at 7 am. Put my 151 on the lift and greased / looked things over / changed rear diff fluid / check bolts for tightness on the underside. Then, loaded the Humvee on the lift. Had to get creative due to the width. I had to drive over the lift arms (blocked them for support). I changed engine, trans, transfer case, diffs and geared hub oils. Greased the entire truck, checked brakes etc. This is the first time I've had time to really look it over. I offered my brother and his wife the Humvee to drive as their M38A1 has some issues that he's not had time to repair. We had a very small amount of rain but was good because it helped keep the dust down on some of the back roads. We also had a guy that I met on the SS site that lives about 45 min away meet us in his Humvee. The only issue we had was a PS rear flat tire on my 151. I picked up a screw. Thankfully it happened on a dirt road and we were going about 15 mph when the back end got fishy feeling. We were back up and running quickly and everyone had a good time.
