Outside Temperatures

Unread post by Mark » June 8th, 2021, 10:41 pm

This would be for the Vietnam vets to answer. Now the hottest outside temp I worked in is 116 degrees or so.I had cramps, heat exhaustion.Drank a lot of water when I could. So I wonder how hot it got in Vietnam, Of course different areas/different temps. Kinda off the wall question.Nothing to do with mutts, then again who walked around with a thermometor?

My dad wrote a letter to my mom explaining that it was near 130* during one operation.
Some people are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

When I was a youngster out of Highschool I worked construction for a summer. It was a drought year and very hot. It was in humid SC and was 100 degrees by lunch. It was 105 by quitting time. We drank tons of water and the site super walked around handing out salt tablets.

The hottest I have had to been outside and doing stuff but not heavy labor was in April in Presidio Texas. It was 120 degrees and the farm truck in front of us lost it's load of onions all over the road. It can get up to and over 130 down that way in the summer. But it's a dry heat.

I don't think I ever really took note of exact temps but it got pretty toasty. Humid and hot was just plain miserable.
This might help to explain.

i also don't recall seeing a thermometer around, but it was hot and humid and wretched. three corps had two seasons---hot and dry, or hot and wet. if you were tail end charlie on a convoy in the dry season, at the end of the day you had raccoon eyes from the rubber goggles, and the triangle bandage you tied around your face was caked in red dust and sweat. the grunts in our AO had to contend with triple canopy jungle and elephant grass. they had the worst job in the nam.

But it's a dry heat.
When someone tries to tell me the heat in a particular locale isn't so bad because it is a "dry heat", I always tell them that it is a "dry heat" inside my oven, but I prefer not to get in it.

Here in Texas, we occasionally get up to just a touch over 100 degrees....and we all climb into the oven to cool off, Raymond. 8)
