Checking in on our European members

Unread post by rickf » July 19th, 2021, 8:24 pm

I would like to check in on our European members from Germany and those other countries that have been impacted by the severe weather and flooding. I hope everyone is alright and safe over there. The news we are seeing here does not look good at all.

it hit the Northwest of Germany really hard, more than 150 people died, but very concentrated to a few heavy spots.

Fortunately in the South, while still some serious flooding happened, nobody got hurt.

The company I work for did railway inspections and the fellow pilots reported a lot of heavy damage to tracks and bridges.

Hoping to hear from Richard, He is in Hamburg if I remember correctly and that means he has the Elbe flowing all around him. And some of our Czech members I haven't seen on here in quite a while.

I sent Richard a text last week. I've not received a reply. Anyone hear from him?

Hi Rick,
thanks for asking.
This time, i think, the smaler rivers and creeks caused the problem, not the bigger ones as the Rhine, Main, Donau, Elbe etc
I live about 150 meters from the riverside of the Main river and, fortunatelly, there was no problem here. Didn't recognize any problems with the elbe, too.

Hi Rick,

thank"s for your care. There are no big damages in my region.
But we experienced a real TORNADO in South Moravian region of
the Czech Republic. First in Czech history and the strongest within
50 years in Europe. Many roofs left, many solid houses destroyed.
Usual event in the USA, no experience in Czechia.

Take care everybody and drive your MUTTs !

Thanks for checking in Andrew, Yes the weather this year has been crazy all over the world. I don't really buy the global warming bit all that much. It may a little to do with it but not all of it. People have to remember what happened in the world 100-150 years ago. Here is the USA we had droughts just like we are having today. No heavy industry or engines contributing to greenhouse gases back then. Just need to look at long term weather cycles.
But whatever the reasons let's just pray it gets back to somewhat normal soon.

All the bad stuff has been happening since time immemorial. We just didn't have everyone in the world walking around with a tiny pocket sized high quality handheld camera/recording/global broadcasting device to document every single thing, nor did we have 24 hour news channels to feed our outrage.

And abnormal is the new normal, and has been for some time.

Rick,

here's a response I received from Bernard Lacasse, who lives close to Liege in Belgium. He lives in a small village and they had it really bad. Bernard may/may not be a board member but he has visited several times...that's how he got in contact with me.

Here's his story:-
Good evening Ken,
I just saw your message.
Fortunately, I was not affected by the flooding.
In my village, I am one of the only ones not to have any damage. My neighbors were all flooded but the torrential waters were diverted by the slope of the road. We were very lucky. I went to help the disaster victims in Polleur, it looked like Baghdad was destroyed, you have to see it to believe it, hundreds of families have lost everything including their house which collapsed,
It will take years to rebuild everything
And how are you ?
Thank you again for your concern.
See you very soon, friends,

Bernard
Kind regards....
Ken

Always wanted - Details and pictures of M416 Trailer data plates & M151 data plates & body-tags for my research. Thanks!
