Transfer Case Lever Boot

Has anyone ever had an issue with the replacement boot interfering with the transfer case lever disengaging? I recently had this issue and to resolve it, I removed the forward screw from going through the boot and just letting it get sandwiched between the boot cover and the trans cover.

I did once. Fooled around with it for some time and finally I gave up on it altogether.

I think probably what's happening is either someone has misidentified some NOS boots and is offering them up as being for M151s (that sort of stuff happens) or it's just poorly made.
