Red River Parts & Equipment Co - Texas - NOS is not NOS Part

Unread post by Austringer » July 30th, 2013, 4:10 pm

Recently purchased what I was told was a NOS M151A2 Emissions Fuel Tank for $150 and when it arrived, it was a great condition takeout but was not NOS I'm working on getting the situation resolved and will post an update when said and done. For now, buyer beware. I hope it was a mistake and will post how they handle it.

Made several purchases from Blake at RR and never had a problem. Bought a NOS tank a while back, first they sent the wrong tank but quickly corrected the issue.

I have seen Red River pop up in several different forums recently, all negative. I have never bought from them but I have recommended them based on others dealings. I am going to hold off on the recommendations for now until I see what is happening.

I have found all the parts for my Deuce and a Half restoration project in Europe and the US. With some exceptions. These parts I found at Red River. I got a quote from Blake and ordered. Since three weeks I am waiting for an invoice and the ability to send money. I send a reminder to Blake and got no response. I am wondering what is going on.

This is just my experience at the moment. I'll keep you updated.

One thing to keep in mind and this goes for all of the vendors, this is the peak of the show season and a lot of these guys are small time operators. In other words, when they go to shows there is nobody at the shop. Not making excuses, just a thought. The complaints I have seen for Red River go back before the season though. I have seen a lot of complaints about Rapco recently also.

I've had the same experience as Richard: I never could get them to answer the phone/email/follow up. They may be good folks but I've never had the opportunity to find out. I've had great luck with Frontline though

I've had some problems with parts sourced from Red River but Blake has always taken the parts back or resent better product. I've had the same challenges from most of the suppliers out there though and most have remedied the problem. Blake isn't the easiest to reach but I've gotten some really good parts and prices from him in the past. I would be surprised if Red River doesn't work with you to remediate.

I just purchased an emissions fuel tank from Red River. It's NOS. They shipped it the day I ordered it and I got it three days later. Other parts have all been handled the same way. I only had to call Blake back once, because he was on the phone when I called.

Have you received the tank yet?
Is it indeed NOS?

I guess I should not be so sure. The box appears to be an old correctly packaged fuel tank box (no off shore markings). I specifically asked Blake if it was a repro or NOS. He said it was NOS. I'm not sure how I could tell if it was not.

Look at the screw holes, surface holes and thread surfaces.
If there are signs of gasket sealer or wear then it is probably a take out.
Shame on them if it is. They should call it what it is.
Been there! Done that!

NOS will have all holes and ports covered or plugged with plastic plugs. Not the screw holes but the screw holes might have paint in them if the rest of the tank is painted and the plug for that opening is not covering the screw holes.
