CMD Body Panels

I know how that goes. Mine has been leaking tranny oil out of the transfer shifter rod for 8 years. It is to the point that i have got to fix it but I simply am not in the condition to do it anymore. Joint replacements, prostate cancer, back surgeries. Getting old SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Getting old does SUCK. Got the knees replaced. Walk better than have in years. No problem getting up or down from creeper. Problem is.....energy runs out by noon. Lunch, Gunsmoke, nap. Good to go again by 1600. Just in time for afternoon coffee. We once could go all day long. Now takes all day to get going.

All day and all night on 3 hours of sleep and a couple cases of beer. Usually leading up to a weekend of racing thrashing to get the car ready. Yea, I remember those times. Well, I remember some of them.

Hello Francis. We've made a couple of prototypes and we're one modification away from having accurate parts. I'll get with the guys and have them button it up.

I see the side panels and what appears to be rear upper frame rails and spring pockets. That is a new one that is not available anywhere else that I know of.

I found the upper frame rail / spring pocket part at the York show (2) years ago. TNJ had it. I snatched it up!

Made a stack die for the axe handle brackets. It appears that the later model contracts had wider brackets and the formed stiffener is bigger. This was the first attempt and is very close. However, an operator error is allowing me to fine tune even more as one of the guys tried forming something else in the press and damaged the top die. Pay attention boys, pay attention!

The die works like this: bend the second bend of the actual cradle first, insert into form die the cycle press. This forms the outside contour. Go back and form last bend. Then form stiffener. I'll have to make another die for this step to match the original. The completed bracket (in the background) in the picture is an NOS from AJP. This die was cut on out water jet and pinned with .250 round stock.

Refined stack die for axe handle bracket profile and stiffener rib die are ready for welding. We're busy at the shop so I brought them home to weld. We'll try them out early next week.

Check out the quality of this NOS seat support seat hinge bracket. My dad would of called this "Someone just going through the motions".

There have been a few times that we've had someone new work on parts and they didn't hold the quality to my expectations. Those parts get tossed.

I am curious to know if it is just that one bracket that is splayed out like that or maybe they all are. I am thinking they may have done that on purpose to allow for bent or misaligned seat frames to still fit in there. Remember, these are not show vehicles. Well, they weren't then anyway. Nothing says you can't improve on the design.

My '68 and '71 are similar to the CMD made ones - pieces are parallel. I believe the part shown to be late contract. So, either it was intended through a design change or half assed by someone. Based on the welds, I'm going with half assed. Both brackets are splayed.
