Some folks I guess are in a big hurry to put a post up or possibly never been on a forum and don't understand setting up their profile helps them and us? :?:
Disclosing your location doesn't make you a target by the folks in the black helicopters.
I try to always convey who, what, where, when and why. I guess it's the military thing with me.

I am all for it, it's not like we are asking for a full name, address and phone #, Just the state or country.

You're absolutely right Dan, it's not like you're asking for a location, you're DEMANDING it! I have nothing against suggesting location be noted in the profile, but demanding it, making it a rule, or not allowing someone to post without disclosing their location is crap. Perhaps you could just required a photo ID be used as our avatar.

I know I am a newbie on this forum (I've been told that by a longtime member) but I will weigh in anyway. I have posted my location becasue I choose to, but I agree 100% with Rainman, it should be a choice not a requirement.

I guess you don't understand. They just want a general location so that we don't have to go through the 20 posts of "where are you". Not your physical address of your home. The admin and mods can see the ip you posted from, so they can get pretty close.

And what are you afraid of that posting that your from whatever state is going to happen to you.

I really hate the "what do you have to hide" argument. Do you have curtains in your house? What are you hiding!

There are enough people in my life trying to tell me what I need to do for the good of the whole. It isn't about where you live but about demanding that you reveal something you do not want to.

Bottom line I guess is if it is forced, then members have to decide if it is worth it or not and whether they want to close their account instead. It is all about choices.

No you didn't Salt6 nor did I say you did, I was trying to make a point and cut to the core of the matter. The what do you have to hide comment always comes out in these sort of debates, I was trying to be preemptive is all.

As soon as I fulfill my perennial New Years Resolution of conquering the planet and enslaving the entire population, none of you will have anything to hide, and nowhere to hide :!:
