A Short Love Story

Unread post by sherwan_88 » December 12th, 2014, 4:58 pm

So today i was in the provincial capital visiting a mechanic to see how far my SUV has progressed in being fixed.
Its pitch black, the mechanic sees my car coming into the workshop and immediately comes to meet and greet.
Far away in the darkness lies a low riding vehicle. I move closer to it and what do you know its a g****mn M825 MUTT! in pakistani de-militarized state.
My heart started to pound like a hammer. It was instant love right there. I light up my torch and woot a complete M825 with every itsy bitsy part on it.
I immediately demand attention and ask "What is it doing here?"
The mechanic replies " its here for a retro restoration with a toyota motor"
I go beserk and reply "F**k no! Don't do that! Does the original motor run?
He goes "Yes but parts are a problem"
I instantly switch to teacher mode and tell them "You can make the original motor run by custom fitting two chinese carbs and install a cng kit"
How to remove the front complete suspension.
How you can remove the entire pack.
Where the wiring runs and how to use the original starter and lighting switch
How the distributor advances and where the coil is located.
How to adjust diffs.
How to work on the axle shafts.
How the front and rear driveline and suspension work.
Not to drive it like an idiot because it rolls over and why it does that.
How to align the wheels and etc etc...

Listening to my MUTT experiences and teaching, i soon ended up having a following of seven people including the mechanic following me around to each part of the MUTT me describing how to fix a problem and best retaining the original setup and if not how to keep closest to it. Shared locations where parts are available. This goes on for about two hours.

I asked "do they wanna sell it?" Mechanic replies "No, they got it for 150k ($1500) though"
At that point i was heart broken but happy at the same time that i've managed to save a MUTT. I could've offered more money to buy it for myself but i had to walk away from it and it was not easy, sadly life and responsibilities have to come first.

Im just happy i saved a MUTT from being another rice wagon. I wasn't kind to mine and i regret it but i want to makeup for it.
I just wanted to share with you guys as nobody shares the MUTT love more than the people here.

Yea right! A Seabee on a clandestine mission? No way!!! All he would do is bang on things with a hammer and talk BS about Navy winning the game. You could never pull off a covert mission with a Seabee.

Yep. The carbs are off a 0.8L midget car. Two should give it a good AFR.
There are not many carbys left in the market now. I can practically count the remaining models on one hand.

OK, Now I am going to have to find that video that Ralph sent me a few years ago. In it was a Huey flying sideways on the highway at windshield height above a 151 making a "beverage" exchange. I LOVE it! Try that one nowadays. By the way, It was an ARMY Helo.
