M151 Wood promo model?

Unread post by ChrisC » June 21st, 2015, 10:42 pm

This item came into the museum last week and we are hoping someone can help confirm what it is. We think it is a Ford made "Salesman's Sample" of the M151.
It is made of wood, has a working suspension, seats fold, top is removable. appears to be @ 1/6 scale. Looks to be a representation of an early production M151 (note the large slot wheels, split windshield...)

It was brought into the museum by a guy who purchased the closed box at an estate sale, the sellers did not know what it was, the screws holding the lid on were stripped and they apparently did not want to deal with removing them.
The sale was in the metro Detroit area.

Has anyone here ever seen one of these before?

A 2B is a very early straight 151. I wonder if there was ever a 2A? Ken? I am sure Ken is all over this one.   Safe to say you may have a one of a kind there.

It was great to document the way it was packaged.

I've just read the posting on the G503 and popped over to post details here......but already done.

Here's what I added on the G503......

What a wonderful find ! Here's a photo of the original 2B 4764 (an XM-151)to compare. The wheels on the model aren't the same style as the XM...... but who cares? The fact that this model has appeared after 50+ years makes me wonder what will turn up next :D

You wouldn't happen to have a hi-res copy of that photo? Or know where I can get one?

Well, the Jerry can is pointed in the right direction in the model.
Sorry, I had to add that.

Not exactly, look where the exhaust is coming out between the bumperettes. Even with an exhaust tip on it the can would be pointing in the wrong direction. So was this the concept for the exhaust to be routed this way?

If you look at that picture of the XM-151 that Ken put up you will see the tail pipe in the same spot. That is some detail for sure and sharp eyes on your part.

That's a cool model all right.

What vehicles got the 2B numbers between XM 151 # 2B 4764 and the earliest production vehicles which must been somewhere in the 2B 6500 range? That is in the order of 1800 numbers.

Is there any way of putting a value on something like that?
