Also using aluminum heat sinks helps control distortion. I use them as much as possible. I'll even use compressed air to keep parts cool between welds.

Meanwhile, I am still obsessing over the footman loop size and placement. Joining that crisis is the placement and hardware for the reflectors. Mine being early, has weldnuts and 10/24 screws for the footman loops. And while double checking that, I realized that my reflectors have weld nuts and 1/4x28 screws in all three positions. Later reflectors had screws with regular nuts and of course the footman loops were welded on.

We know that the manuals often are wrong or evolve over the years. I found a 1960 -20 manual with some photos of early trucks in the documents section here. I'd love to find a -20P from 1960 to see what they list for hardware.

In the first photo, you can see the proper placement of the items. Look along the left edge under the footman loop and you can see where the reflector was when I got the jeep. It was moved at some point (maybe because the top obscured it in the higher position) and they drilled holes and used regular hardware. I'm a stickler for these sorts of details having come from classic Mustang restoration.

I have a 1960 M151, though someone put A2 half front fenders on it.He was trying to sell it as an A2 I think.On the channels, that curve up to engine compartment that the engine mounts on were rusted away alot.I took it a bodyshop who did the welding to fix it.He charged me $9000, of course he never gave me a price quote.

This past Friday we did a lot of detail preps for the back panel install. My buddy spent most of the day repairing the edges and straightening the flanges for the welding to come. I started on the front fenders, the passenger side being bent and stretched down. After about an hour or so, I had the passenger fender looking better and more aligned with the unbend driver's side.
The fender still has oil canning from the stretching so I have to work that out.

Just stopped by to say the splined bolts for the shocks on the rear should not take 45 mins to remove ONE. That is with heat, spray and sledge pounding. I still have not been able to free the top two shock bolts. I guess those will wait until it's on the rotisserie.

Hit them with a shot of Kroil every chance you get until you get ready to remove them.

The upper bolt has a pressed in bushing on the nut side and splines on the head side, they are very hard to find so leave the nuts on when hammering them out.

Yeah, Mr. Recovery, it's because I don't want to wreck them that they are still in there. It'll be easier hopefully when I can stand up and work on them.

Thursday work day. Creeping up on the panel install. The taillight brackets were next, followed by quite a bit of fiddling with the rear body. The jeep had been hit on both left and right rear fender areas, on the back panel, and so have different issues. I think we have finally gotten them solved. I'll drill holes for the footman loops and reflector, install the weld nuts and then I think we are a go for the panel install.
