The main rails are only perforated where the front member was, so hopefully we'll be able to patch them. I'm trying to figure out how to clean inside the various structural members so I can spray with rust preventative. I have a inspection camera and will be looking inside.

Looking at the driver's side front crossmember. Drilling spotwelds and making notes about what all overlaps. There is an area of the frame there which will have to be patched first. I've got to drill out more welds to take the floorpan away from the sides. I either have to make patch panels or buy from Guy.

I'm trying to figure out this rear engine mount. It doesn't look like the patch piece at all. I think someone welded a 1/8" piece of steel to the underside. The repair cap fits over it but it needs to be way less rusty before I would do that.

You mean the underbody kit from AMG? I have a complete one here to use.

I am still looking for underside photos of the transmission support, which I thought I had but now are missing.

Yes, that's the kit. If you are installing the underbody kit and your original transmission support is missing the bottom, not the mounts, I'd just gusset it some and install the repair kit. Or, bend up a smaller version of the repair kit center piece profile as that's what the original is.

A full day of work on the jeep with few photos to show. We removed the remainder of the front crossmember on the driver's side and the scab steel plate on the bottom of the rear engine mount. The mount plate is fairly rusted and perforated in several places, so we may remove it and fab up a new one with the old mounts on it.

The rear motor mount looks like it was scrapped off on some vigorous off-roading and had a 1/8" plate of steel sloppily welded the remains. Naturally, this held in the dirt and protected the rusty metal. It came off with very little grinding.

The wiring harness is out, except for the rear section where it runs through the frame. Steering gear is off, dash bits such as circuit breakers, etc. The cursed pedal support (a pox on the guy who designed that) is out.

We are close to having a plan to repair the frame were it is rusted partially through. Not much else can be done until that is dealt with. First I think on a warmish day we will powerwash the body and try to get all the sand, rocks etc. out of the hidden areas and spray rust inhibitor inside.

I ordered some panels from Guy so we can get this show back on the road. They should be here next week. Meanwhile, I'll be in spotweld hell...

Had a work day last Saturday. We got down to the frame rail on the driver's side and patched it. Next we'll start replacing the missing sections.

Full work day yesterday. We spent about 7 hours fabricating a replacement section for the front floorpan.

I may have asked this before but why don't you save yourself a lot of time and labor and buy the panels that are already out there made for this? The bottom rails, with the exception of the main rails, are all available. The floor pans are also available as are the battery box if you need it. And any exterior panel is out there along with all of the exterior and interior rear body panels. I made my whole front half side panel from scratch before they were available and man! I would buy premade panels in a heartbeat.

Well, I bought the main items I needed from Guy in March and made the decision to fab the rest. It's a budget thing these days plus my buddy loves doing that kind of stuff. I have the large underbody kit already here which I bought like 7 years ago. Aside from the rear panel, which we have already replaced, the drivers sidepanel and floor is the worst area. The passenger side is not bad at all. I was lucky I found a body that wasn't too bad.
