That's Okay. We're all a 'little thick' or we wouldn't be in this hobby....

Re: M718A1 restoration
Getting a few more things blasted, sanded and painted, that CARC will work the bead blaster. Has anyone had any experience with a vibrating tumbler?, thinking of investing on one at HF for cleaning up the hardware, seems to do a decent job from the videos.
Picked up this fatigue mat from HF the other day, on sale until tomorrow, this 50"x100" section was $14, going back to get some more, feels good on my tired feet.
Re: M718A1 restoration
I use a vibratory tumbler all the time for reloading and I have heard bad things about the HF ones. I bought a National Metallic one and it works great.

Thought I would go ahead and get the bows mounted, I will soon be able to start the canvas stretching process, definitely looking forward to that.

Did I mention how SICK I am of CARC paint , EVERY little thing that was exposed to the outside has CARC, have a lot of things painted, ready to be installed.

Re: M718A1 restoration
Got to the point where I wanted to mount my bow rods to the top of the windshield, there's three small brackets that attach to the top of the windshield that the rods attach to. When I bought this jeep they were missing, but I knew I had collected all three over the past years, I had bought one NOS one from Red River(only one he had) and a couple off a damaged windshield frame. Sometime in the past, I stashed them away SOMEWHERE, started searching yesterday with no luck, got back on it this morning, after about 4 hours, BINGO, just happened to be to be in a box I stored in my shed. They are about unobtainable, like the canvas and the litter supports, it's a great day now, time for a cool one.
Re: M718A1 restoration
I'll bet Guy could make those unobtainium brackets in minutes!

Re: M718A1 restoration
When I was working for Ed up in Brooksville I made a set of them out of the brackets on the windshield for the top support rods. If I can find my old photos I post them for you. Found them.

Re: M718A1 restoration
Halfway through my search I was ready to fab them up but I knew they had to be buried in my junk somewhere. One good thing about digging through the stuff I haven't seen in a couple years was finding stuff I forgot I had, found a few things I needed for the project, rubber hood supports for grill, dust boot kit, new chain clips for the support rods, new master cylinder and seal kit for trans/tranny. Here's just 3 of the boxes I had to dig through, my packrat habit has become a problem, I will never use all this stuff, about time to start selling some of this junk.
Re: M718A1 restoration
Packrats are not the ones with the problem. It is all the others that want the stuff the packrat has that have the problem!

Re: M718A1 restoration
You're right Rick, packrats aren't that bad, probably saved some stuff from hitting the dumpster, then you find stuff you're glad you saved, a couple of NOS fuel pumps.
Re: M718A1 restoration
My problem is that I know I have the stuff like NOS coils I bought and I don't know where I stashed them! Now the same guy is selling more of those NOS coils............... at 200.00 a pop! And thinking of asking more. packratting definitely paid off for him! I asked him how many he had left and he is not even sure.

Re: M718A1 restoration
, We're getting to an age where we can't remember where we put it, can't see it if we find it and can't hear the wife when she tell us to take out the trash. If I ever get back up that way, we will dig through some of those treasures.rickf wrote: ↑September 27th, 2020, 10:20 amMy problem is that I know I have the stuff like NOS coils I bought and I don't know where I stashed them! Re: M718A1 restoration
Bring lots of tick spray! they have been exceptionally bad the last couple years due to the warm winters. That is the main reason I have not gone out digging trough my sheds. I usually do it in the winter when the critters are dormant. Or at least cooler weather when they can't move faster than me which is pretty slow anymore.

Re: M718A1 restoration
I don't know what's worse, mosquitos or ticks, I think that last hurricane blew Surveyors mosquitos up my way.
