1974 M151A2 Project

Here it is. I shot it with primer in an attempt to make it easier to see.

The bracket also has the 3 weld nuts for the bow bracket. As I said, some 1/8" flat bar should do the trick. Drill some holes, tack weld the nuts, put a hole in it for the pin and get a good plug weld, stitch weld that to fender and side panel and you're in business. Let me know if you need pins, we have them in stock.

Now that I actually look at the picture, it appears that the original was peened over. Weld it!

Both front floor panels and the two latch pins. I could use two footman loops that are already drilled, as the lower gas can strap loops also lost their holes during the previous work. 93536 is the zip. Total?

No worries.

I managed to wrangle the top bow assy into position and used it to mark where the three bolt holes should be on the fender tops. It seemed to match the fasteners underneath, so I drilled though on the first one, as a guide for the next two. Came in on the mark! So new hardware in place and bow assy back where it's supposed to be.

Tomorrow I'll search for the lower Y strap holes for the gas can. The right side footman loop hole fills are evident but the left side will take me back under the truck again. Appreciate those photos!

With the recent departure of rain from our area, I've been carving/sanding/chipping a few pounds of old paint from my 151, especially in the front footwells and rear cargo floor. I discovered the wonders of high-build primer that fills the sanding marks across the hood and minor irregularities in the repaired areas. As I don't weld, I'm using fiberglass to patch a few rust holes in the floorboards and tool compartment (battery box floor panel was replaced earlier. When time permits I'll explore having the holes cut/welded properly.

Seat frames and windshield were sand-blasted/powder coated, then new windshield glass laminate and seal installed.

Going to use 24084 for the OD. I have MP markings for spare tire cover and windshield from Rick Larsen which I purchased several years back; can someone give advice as to properly apply these?

Late July 2023. Hot hot hot. I rattle-canned the dark OD seen here two weeks ago, and 800 grit wet sanded this afternoon. The footwells are still wearing a few layers of older paint but not easily hand-sanded, so I'll give those two areas a pass for now. Going to use some Gillespie 24087 for final color, as this will look good with the white markings/bumper numbers, etc. This will be a first-time adventure with a spray gun HVLP and my compressor, and I'll be adding to this post when that day comes knockin'.

Here's what I have to date. I have not mounted the fender siren or red light on the cowl, and will add those after the final paint.

Question: Was the three-rib engine hood an earlier M151 piece, or ? I still cannot accurately pin down my year of manufacture, and that's even with the assistance of Ken Mutt Guru.

The three rib hood was early 151 BUT, They brought it back for the later A2's. The difference being the Early style had small notches for the turn signal wires. I see the notches in your hood so it may be an early hood. I am not positive if the A2 eliminates those notches or not.

is the date tag still present on the horn? that might be helpful.
