1992 Mercedes-Benz 250 GD - Former German Army Truck

Unread post by mrdibbles » May 17th, 2021, 11:39 am

Hey Guys,
Well the green-bug bit me again. Sharing a couple photos here of my 1992 Mercedes-Benz 250GD Wolf. This unit served with the German Army (Bundeswehr) before being released into private hands.

I found it through a dealer that was in the process of importing it from the Netherlands. There really aren't a bunch these military G-Wagons in the US, at least on the open market, so I bit the bullet and paid through the nose to get it here. And by "here" I mean it arrived in the US at the Port of Los Angeles. Given I live in Florida that meant another costly transport to my garage.

This is a 5-Cyl. Turbo Diesel, with a 5-speed manual transmission, and she runs very capably down the highway at modern traffic speeds. It also has front and rear lockers. The ride is smooth too and while I've only had it for a couple weeks now the verdict thus far is that it's exceeded my expectations.

Still a VERY big fan of the M151... just trying something new.
Matt

That’s a different one than the one you looked at originally?

I am thinking with the turbodiesel and 5 speed you should be getting pretty good fuel mileage.

Hey Guy,
Here's the motor. Pretty clean with 30,404 miles. Of course its in KM so I have to use a calculator to convert it to miles. Also need to figure out the KM speedo. At present I have zero idea how fast I am going.

Mine did NOT have a surrey top but both of them did have the gasoline heaters! They were also not as good off road as a properly set up Bug.

Looks good, Enjoy the topless thing now because once you get a bit older you realize it is not so much fun roasting your brain.

HA! I'm with you Rick. This will be a fleeting experience trust me. I prefer the shade of a top for sure. Especially Florida sunshine. In the middle of summer it feels like the sun is 10-feet overhead.
