That is one nice thing about my diesel tractor. One battery cable from hot to battery and one to ground, One hot wire from starter switch to starter and one wire from alternator to battery. That is all that is needed. If it cranks it will start and no power needed to run.

We had a '73 Ford 4000 gas tractor with calcium filled rear tires at the company. Used it for brush hogging and snow removal.

With the extra weight from the calcium in the rear tires, it would move snow above it's pay grade, even going uphill.

Think I may have landed an Ingersoll Rand compressor (towable). Going to look at it this morning. The word is, it's lost all its wiring

One can only imagine how that happened.

Hoping it's a 250 series rather than the 185 but otherwise, a diesel powered unit. Having a machine like that would take a lot of strain off my stand-up compressor for doing things like blasting.

That fella ought to pay a visit to that my new favorite salvage yard. Small mountains of fenders in that place...and very affordable. There was a set there that were far better than mine and looked almost new (but weren't). Mine only appear to have a few small beer dents and they could use some paint but otherwise, they're cherry.

My tractor is meant to be nothing more than a rustoration at this point. The goal is to get it running reliably and have it do the work I require of it.

By the way, I visited a Tractor Supply in a nearby town and, Lo and Behold, they had points and condenser for my machine on the shelf for cheap. Let me tell you...I uttered a small WOO-HOO for that find. I have another set on order and I've been wearing a path in the yard around my mailbox lately...pacing and waiting for the mail-order stuff to arrive.

Had my ignition switch apart to sort its particular problem out. A small fingernail shaped piece of plastic had snapped off and found its way into a position that was giving me a lot of grief. The plastic is only as old as the tractor so, no real surprise there. I got it apart and the little bend-over tabs that held the back in place snapped off (naturally). After a good, thorough cleaning, sanding of the outer case to rough it up and give it some 'bite' and finally, a reassembly, I clamped the whole thing up in a C-clamp and doped the case and back cover with a really thick coating of JB-weld to form a stout collar to bond the two. It doesn't look pretty but it's up where it cannot be seen and the ignition switch works now. Repaired it for pennies. The moment this fails again, I'm going to install a master switch and an intermittent button for the starter and that will be that. But for now...

Really excited about the prospect of the compressor and the possibility that I have scored another winner. I just love acquiring the outcasts that other folks have given up on. We shall see how that turns out!

Rotary compressors really don't like to run "small" air stuff like home sand blasters because they do not use enough air to keep the unit energized. I comes on and back off in seconds, over and over. Now, if you have a 60-80 gallon air tank to sister into that would act as a buffer and make it much happier. Most of those units are in the 100 plus CFM range and a sandblaster uses maybe 15 CFM.

The whole thing was a wash. Ancient, treated VERY badly, ignored, wrecked and, at this stage of the game, generally fit for nothing better than a trip to the recycler.

Oh and it was a 160 unit, making only 100PSI on its best day.

Really nothing to lose any sleep over.

Autumn is officially here and it looks like there's gonna be a Rod Run this weekend! Might be a good time to take Dirty Gertie out and show the flag.

I've seen this sporty looking runabout cruising around town for several days and last night I found it parked outside one of our many ice houses (which is 'Texas Speak' for a convenience store).

The wife and I took in the car show. One fella showed his Dodge WC57 Command Car. Naturally, he and I 'talked shop' and the wife took the opportunity to explore several of our Hauptstrasse stores. Something for everybody. The show was heavily populated with early 30's Fords but there was a smattering of some of the 'full-figured girls'.

I thought you were an accident investigation officer? You don't recognize an energy absorbing frame when you see one? :twisted: :twisted: :roll: :roll: :lol: :lol: :lol: I also like the unsupported brake line going to the caliper, how long before it wears back and forth on the frame and breaks or wears through. The hole through the frame is a neat idea but a piece of .120 wall tubing welded in there would have made it MUCH stronger than two heated and bent steel straps.

But a really easy investigation. And probably denied insurance coverage if they even have any.
